Walk / Wade Trips Walk / Wade Trips feature solitude and scenery. On these trips, you are not floating past good trout lies, but are shown how to "pick the water apart" by casting your fly over, around and under of feature of the river or stream you are fishing. Walk/wade trips are not designed to be strenuous (although we can accomodate that, too) but, instead, they are designed to give you on-hand and over-the-shoulder instructions you need in order to set the hook. Because you are not being coached from a moving boat, the personal attention you desire is immediate.
Walk/wade trips are the option for most of our anglers because you can have the streamside experience in an infinite number of locations where floating a boat is not an option. Walk/wade trips also allow you to stay on the water longer to take advantage of the numerous hatches which occur in the last hour and a half of the day. Lots of big trout are caught and released on the walk/wade trips.
Float Trips , by their nature, allows anglers to cover a lot of water Most of North Fork Anglers float trips cover 10 miles of river per day. Flyf ishing from a boat not only allows you to float over lots of trout in a single day, but also to sit back and see some of the remarkable scenery and wildlife found in the Greater Yellowstone area. The float trip season in North Fork country is usually through the months of July - September. The rivers North Fork Anglers guide on float trips are the North Fork of the Shoshone, the lower Shoshone River, the lower Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone, and the Bighorn River in Wyoming.
September through April, North Fork Anglers only provides float trips on the Bighorn and lower Shoshone Rivers because the flows are regulated by dam releases. The freestone streams such as the North Fork and Clark's Fork more easily fished by wading during those months.
Not much has been written about the excellent late season caddis,
mayflies and midge fishing found here in Cody. That's good news for
you. There are no other anglers but you and there are miles of water to
float and fish. The weather is generally mild, with temperatures in the
40's through the 50's, even up in the high 60's right through December.
Sure, there are occasional days when the snow blows and the wind howls,
but that makes for excellent waterfowl conditions. There are always
plenty of places left to duck the weather and bang big browns,
cutthroat and rainbow trout for the rest of the day.Cast and Blast trips Cast and Blast trips are a combination waterfowl/flyfishing experience. These trip begin after the end of the fair weather fishing season and during the fall/winter months through the end of December. Experience great passing shooting from a blind over decoys for teal, mallards, geese, gadwall, wood duck and other waterfowl. After the morning flights are over, your guide will take you to the put-in point for a great day of fishing on the lower Shoshone or Bighorn Rivers, filled with browns, cutthroat and rainbows. Most of these trout range in size from 14-20 inches. Expect to catch plenty of trout larger than that, particularly on overcast days.
Cast and blast trips are planned around the waterfowl season, usually October through the end of December. You will have two guides. One will be calling the ducks and managing the retriever and decoy spread. The other will be rowing you down a river most anglers never get to flyfish because they forget the best fishing of the season can be found after eveyone else has settled down to watch football games on the tube!
