Forks Washington Fishing Guide Olympic Peninsula
Experience a great day of fishing Steelhead and Salmon on Olympic Peninsula rivers with Forks, Washington fishing guide Capt. Randy Lato. Forks, Washington, is located in the heart of the Olympic Peninsula, between the Olympic mountains and the Pacific Ocean beaches. Forks offers access to the Olympic Peninsula rivers for guided river float fishing trips for Steelhead & Salmon as well as Scenic River Tours. Randy has been fishing these waters since the age of 10 and knows them intimately.
Olympic Peninsula Steelhead Fishing
Steelhead fishing on the Olympic Peninsula is very popular, these runs bring people from all over the world to catch a steelhead. The Olympic Peninsula is known as the the steelhead capital of the world.
We have a hatchery runs of steelhead and native runs of steelhead. We do promote catch and release on the wild fish but I feel the final decision should be the paying clients. I do push to release the females more because one male can fertilize a couple of female nest. The sponning fish is our future.
I like to drift bait or yarn balls to entice these fish with light gear. I use 12lb on the real and 8lb on the leader and have landed several fish over twenty pounds. I also am not against pulling plugs for steelhead either its also effective as my personal largest steelhead was 27lbs on a Dr. Death Tadpoly.
Using light gear does have moments, I remember we had a big fish in fast water and the fish was going up stream and I couldn't row up. The fish had us all but spooled when I told the client to open his bail on the spinning real. He replied what? I said open the bail now and he did the fish thought he was loose and came back down stream and we did land it.
With its measurements it calculated out be 26lbs. I do clean and bag the fish that we do keep.
Febuary is the best month to lay into a big native steelhead.
This years runs are looking very good, its said that when we have a good salmon run the steelhead will be strong also. From what I have sene so far its going to be great.
March is my favorite month to fish with the down river fish returning to the ocean and the fish going up to spawn there is a lot of action. We see double digit hook-ups most days.
April is also a great month for steelhead with a good chance to also get a spring King.
Forks Salmon Fishing Guide
The Rivers of Washington State's Olympic Peninsula have been a favorite for anglers around the world. These Rivers offer King and Silver Salmon as well as the Olympic Peninsula's Famous Steelhead Trout.
You will be fishing from a heated 17' drift boat or a 16ft raft in low water conditions, and using top of the line gear & tactics to ensure Fish On Action.
The king and silver fishing on the Olympic Peninsula is a great opportunity for anglers to get there salmon fishing fix and fill the freezer.
These fish are fresh from the ocean by hours. Fishing for salmon in the rivers isn't same as in the ocean these fish are limited on space and put up a great battle and with light gear this is a awesome display of power and energy.
Olympic Peninsula Washington Fishing Guide
Whether we fish from the 17' Willie boat when the water is up or the Outcast raft for low water conditions the comfort level is high. The gear and the line is light for maximum fish hookups and durable enough to land the big ones.
When the day is done I will gut and gill the fish and put them in bags for you. You then need to keep them on ice to ensure freshness.
I am now booking for fall kings in the Olympic Peninsula rivers Sol Duc, Bogachiel Quillayute and Hoh. This action is in October and November and is very popular and does fill fast.
I am also booking December hatchery steelhead in the same rivers. With a 3 fish limit this is also a popular fishery.
January starts the native steelhead runs. These fish are the most popular fish for sport anglers and the Olympic Peninsula is one of the most popular places. With fish in the mid teens and the trophy's of 20 pounds plus.
