Grande Ronde River Rainbow Trout and Smallmouth Bass Fishing May-October Grande Ronde River fishing for Rainbow Trout and Small Mouth Bass in the Summer can be remarkable. The River has not been "discovered" for summer fishing. Consequently on a "good day" you can hook between 20 and 40 fish on any type of gear. The average size of rainbow trout are 8-14", with a good number of fish in the river system. Variying methods, of flies, lures and bait all work well. Smallmouth Bass on the Grande Ronde are abundant in numbers with the average size fish 14", and some real trophies, lurking in the pools. Gear fishing is the most effective, however, catching smallmouth bass on a fly is an exhillaritaing experience.
