Chasing Salmon & Steelhead has been a life-long passion for me. I'm a native Washingtonian and my experience extends to Alaska, Canada, and Oregon. Beginners and experts alike are provided with a fun and knowledgeable fishing experience.
Olympic Peninsula Fishing for Steelhead
Fall rains bring the river levels up from summer levels, and with the elevated water come the Steelhead. These rivers all have their origins in the Olympic National Park. River fishing is done from a heated drift boat. Also on the schedule are the upper Quinalt and Queels Rivers. Both these rivers, like the Forks area rivers host the largest winter Steelhead in the world.
Steelhead fishing is done out of Forks, Washington. Here the mighty Quileute System composed of the Sol Duc, Calawah, Bogachiel, and Dickey Rivers plus the Hoh River are the main attractions. These river systems have some of the strongest runs of Steelhead Salmon in the world.
Thanksgiving is the kickoff time for fishing Steelhead that then gives way to the prize wild Steelhead by early January. Catch and release is highly encouraged on wild Steelhead to help preserve this magnificent run of fish. Wild 20 pound Steelhead are not uncommon with a legitimate shot at a 30 pound fish. Bait and tackle are provided. Fishing methods include back trolling plugs, side-drifting, and float fishing. Tightlines Sportsfishing is one of the originators of the float fishing method for Steelhead & Salmon on the Olympic Peninsula.
Lower Columbia River Fishing for Salmon
Tightlines Sportsfishing has both Washington and Oregon Charter licenses. This allows me to fish all marine waters in both states. Springtime means the Lower Columbia River for the best eating salmon in the world. Columbia River Spring Chinook Fishing is excellent from late March though the middle of May.
Puget Sound Fishing for Salmon June through mid-August is Puget Sound time. This is a great fishery. The Sound is perfect for out-of-town guests on business trips with its close proximity to downtown Seattle. Puget Sound and the lower Columbia are fished out of a 26' Osprey. It will handle up to 6 guests. We only mix trips up to four persons. Puget Sound fishing is done out of Des Moines Marina. It is located less than 10 minutes from Sea-Tac Airport. We fish mostly in area II which has the most liberal limits on the Sound. Fish can be processed right in the City of Des Moines.
The waters of Puget Sound are salt water but there are no ocean swells. Occasionally high winds will make fishing difficult and less enjoyable. This is rare but it can cause a cancellation. Mid-August is time for Lower Columbia Salmon, Kings and Silvers. This is as close to surefire salmon action as it gets. Many large Kings and Silvers. Mid-September through October is Garibaldi, Oregon Ocean & bay fishing. These are the finest fall Kings on the whole West Coast. These fish averaged 26 pounds last year. This year there will be more of the 5 year olds, which means 30 to 50 pounders. This is a great fishery with days already filling fast.
