Los Roques Venezuela Fishing Lodge

"14 Year Experience in Los Roques, 70% Repeat Clients..."

The Real Difference are the guides - besides the accommodations, the meals, the handling of the transfers, and the pro-staff. Alex and his team have a complete command of English. They know Los Roques supremely well having pioneered the fishing there from the late 80's and they have that rare ability to just add a little flavour and variety to a day. Los Roques is famous for its small wadeable flats that offer wonderful fishing for very decent sized tailing fish and for the beach fishing where the bonefish hang off the beaches and raid the baitfish. With the flexibility to operate either the traditional pinero boats or their Keys-type, flats skiffs, they can access water and therefore different species and types of fishing that the pinero cannot, stalking schools, pods, or singles. In one day you can enjoy some fine, productive bonefishing to tailing fish, you can hook big-eye jack, land flag yellow-tail snappers and jump baby tarpon in the 10-30 lb. class as well as cast to fish in the 100 lbs calls rolling in deeper water but perfectly catchable or chase permit in the deep white sand flats. On top of this they have a small blue water boat to take guests out to fish for wahoo or tuna. Alex is more driven by a quest for excellence. His enterprise, which he shares with his enchanting wife, Elena, is purely a vehicle to satisfy a boiling passion for fishing. He responds to the same in others and rallies to the cause with genuine desire. He knows that a first- rate offering is the best way to the goal. And he is sensitive to his place in the tableau of world-class fishing.

"Your worst day Bonefishing Los Roques with Pez Raton will be the best day fishing of your life..."

  • In case you have not had a taste of this special place, let us share with you a few strong considerations for trying it out: Los Roques enjoys a long 10-month season (January-October).
  • The climate is stable and reliable; it is far enough south to be protected from cold fronts that often plague other saltwater venues during our winter months.
  • Every single one of Alex's guides gets rave reviews from returning clients. They are knowledgeable, helpful and speak good fishing English.
  • There is excellent variety to the fishing with plenty of opportunity to wade for a wide range of species. Your guide will determine optimal times to fish different areas and types of fish depending upon tides, your preferences and carefully resting flats.
  • Pez Raton's program is flexible with no set turnaround day so fishing packages can be tailor-made according to your objectives.
  • This is quality bonefishing with the average size an honest 4 pounds!
  • Accommodations and meals with the Pez Raton program are unparaleled on the island. Alex and his wife, Elena, provide outstanding service and cuisine featuring fresh fish, lobster in season and Italian specialties.
  • Each room has a/c and a personal safe.
  • Rooftop terrace for cocktails and dinner under the stars.

  • Los Roques Fishing

There are over 350 cays and little islands that make up the archipelago known as Islas Los Roques. The maximum run is 50 minutes but there are many productive flats within just a few minutes from the lodge. Each boat is driven by a boatman who drops off fishing pairs with their guide on various flats and meets them at the other end, thus eliminating wasted time backtracking across the flat just fished. The vast majority of the flats are waded, stalking schools, pods, or singles, and guides position you expertly with the wind to your maximum advantage. There is great variety to the flats at Los Roques - some are vast and expansive, others small and referred to as pancakes; some are virtually spotless, others covered in turtle grass; there are many productive beach flats where the bonefish hang offshore and raid the ever-present schools of baitfish; sometimes you are in and amongst the mangroves and elsewhere you are on a patch of sand surrounded by nothing but azure water. Bonefish at Los Roques average 3-5 pounds and there is a realistic expectation for fish 7-10+ pounds all the time.

Although Los Roques is considered a mainline bonefish destination, you will encounter other species as well and thus need to be prepared with a second rod, fully rigged for cruising barracuda, tarpon (both small ones and the occasional large one - up to 100 pounds!), permit, horse eye jack, and a variety of snappers.
