Southern Utah Fly Fishing Guides
Fly Fishing Fremont River - Private Waters Red River Ranch
Red River Ranch Fly Fishing Private Water With over 6 miles of private river, our catch-and-release Southern Utah fly fishing is world famous. This pristine, slow moving, meandering river produces some of the best fly fishing any where in the world! The average fish (Browns & Bows) caught here is 18" with plenty of opportunity to land fish over 20". One of the many reasons that make this river so special is that most of the fish caught and released here are taken on the surface! For the fly fishing purist, this is a dream come true!
Here, in this rugged natural wonderland, are 2,200 private acres of pristine wilderness called Red River Ranch. Tucked away in the shadows of towering rock cliffs you'll find the Lodge, named one of the West's 25 Grandest Lodges. The Lodge has 15 rustic rooms in the authentic tradition of the 18th Century Wild West. The aquatic insect hatches are consistent from year-to-year and our world class guides know them as well as they know the river itself. They are sure to provide you with a fly-fishing trip to remember! As part of our packages we also provide fly-fishing schools for both the beginner and novice. With the help of our experienced guides, even the total beginner will learn to cast a fly rod, learn about the aquatic insect life on the Fremont River, stock wild trout, and catch & release the fish they catch.
Our prime time is between May to mid-July with the Blue Wing Olive, Caddis, Midge and Stonefly hatches being the most predominant. The fish here will take terrestrials, especially hoppers and ants most of the year, and will even feed on small mice! We get an amazing Salmon Fly hatch in June for about 2 weeks, and from the middle of July to the end of September we will have clouds of Tricos on the water.
We suggest that you book your trips early so you can assure yourselves a spot during these months of unparalleled fly fishing. We also guarantee that while you are on the river with us, our CPR and First Aid certified guides will provide you with absolute privacy! With almost 7 miles of the Fremont River on the ranch, we can accommodate up to 16 anglers (2 per guide) and guarantee that you will not run into another angler except during breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
The fishing here is so special that the 2007 Fly Fishing Masters selected Red River Ranch and the Fremont River as the location for their Western Regional Finals won by Hutch Hutchinson and Steve Rayjeff. Eight of the best and well known fly fishers in the world competed on this pristine river. Whether you are a professional or total beginner, we know you will have a memorable fly fishing experience with Backcountry Outfitters at Red River Ranch! 3 DAYS HORSE BACK RIDING - FISHING - TONS OF FUN AMAZING HIKES - DELUXE CAMPING
The Capitol Reef National Park area holds some of the most varied and interesting terrain in Utah. Part of the 100 mile long Water pocket Fold, an abrupt thousand-foot high ridge made out of twisted sandstone, this region makes an ideal playground. The adjacent Boulder Mountain provides the elevation necessary to offer respite from the mid-summer heat and creates a cool air mass that results in more rain than surrounding areas during summer months. The extra moisture ensures great fishing all summer long.
Boulder Mountain Fishing - Rod and Ride On this ride we will ascend the verdant Boulder Mountain where lakes and streams are interspersed amongst high mountain meadows and light, airy aspen groves. Once on top, we will explore the gently undulating terrain of the Boulder Mountain (actually more of a plateau). Boulder Top, as it is referred to by the locals, features stellar views of Capitol Reef, the Henry Mountains, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and the Book Cliffs over 100 miles away! The option to extend your adventure with an extra day of fishing, biking, hiking, or horse riding make this the perfect adventure experience.
Capitol Reef Fly Fishing Public Waters
The fishing in Capitol Reef is something of an anomaly. To the casual observer, familiar with other high-desert locations, there would seem to be little in the way of fishing here. Fortunately, we are quite lucky to have several mountains in the region over 10,000 feet in elevation. The Boulder Mountains, Fish Lake National Forest, and Thousand Lakes provide cool, clear creeks and lakes, borne of the late mountain snow provide ample run-off year round to sustain a number of fisheries.
These incredible high mountain lakes coupled with off-the-beaten-path small stream fishing for trophy trout makes Southern Utah a fly-fishing destination that you must experience. Capitol Reef Backcountry Outfitters has been fishing these waters for years and would love to show you some of our favorite spots. Regardless of age or ability level, we have secret fly fishing locations to meet the demands of any fisherman. The Boulder Mountains are also home to the state Brook Trout (7 lb 8 oz) and Tiger Trout (10 lb 12 oz) Fish Lake is home to the state record Splake Trout (17 lb 4 oz).
One of the many things that make this area a destination for anglers is that there are several species of trout in Utah, and it is not uncommon them to catch up to five different species in a day!
