The sun shines most of the time and the average temperature ranges from 85 in the summer to about 70 in the winter. South Padre Island area holds numerous World records, (four on the fly) and State records, both in fly, and all tackle.

Since I started guiding in 1977 it has evolved into just that. I really enjoy teaching fly fishing and fishing in general. The Lower Laguna Madre here at South Padre Island, Texas has so much to teach us, as well as the great fishing and all the different ways to catch them. I have fished these waters for 35 years and know a little bit about our bay system. I have probably forgotten more than I know now if the truth be known. My great grandfather, Earl Long was a commercial fisherman here in the early to mid 1900's and my grandfather, Capt. Wiley Mahurin was a guide here as well as owning his own marina called of course, Capt. Wiley's Marina. So when it's in your blood it's not to be taken lightly.
