Tahiti Fly Fishing and Cruise Vacation

Tuamotu atolls Tahiti fishing and cruise vacation

In the Tuamotu atolls, where life essentially revolves around the sea, your Tahiti Haumana Cruise offers you all the opportunities you could dream of to go fishing; saltwater fishing and its associated resources are the main daily activities of the islands inhabitants. Perpetuating a long ancestral tradition, many "paumotu" still live essentially from this way of life. Your Tahiti Haumana Cruise is the opportunity to discover the different fishing techniques and methods that the locals master with unrivalled skill.

Our cruises in the Tuamotu Archipelago are saltwater fishing focused, and we are fully equipped on board the Haumana to offer many different types of fishing to fans of the sport, catering even to those of you that are already adept in the noble art of fly fishing. You can also fish with leads or jigs from the rear deck of the yacht, spin 'till your heart's content from a thousand deserted beaches, install yourself on the ocean's edge and cast into the deep blue for some truly incredible reef fishing, or practice different types of sports fishing or traditional techniques such as handline or harpoon fishing.

Tahiti Fly Fishing

Tahiti Fishing Cruise
Rangiroa and Tikehau, vast sea aquariums, offer fly-fishing fans a well-stocked and preserved fishing environment, and the guarantee of great catches. The favourite fish of fly-fishers are plentiful in the white-sand flats on the never-ending shoals. You'll come across some incredible io'io (bonefish), many varieties of jack, barracuda, milkfish (chanos chanos) and more. Over 450 different species of fish have been documented in Rangiroa's lagoon and Jacques Cousteau's research group declared that Tikehau lagoon contained the highest concentration of fish in all of the Tuamotu atolls...

Flat and open sea fishing

So in order to be able to tell stories about all those that didn't get away, fish the flats first, hit the beaches for some casting and then troll the drop-off outside the reef while keeping your eyes open for a boiling ocean surface where the skipjack (or 150 pound yellowfin) are in a feeding frenzy!

In the ocean, you're in half a mile of water just a thousand yards off the reef, measure yourself against the most energetic catches: tuna, wahoo, sharks, king mackerel and other dolphin-fish or mahi-mahi which are so highly appreciated by Polynesians and the world's best chefs alike.
