HOW FAR OUT DO YOU GO AND WHAT IS THE FISHING LIKE?
Nothing exemplifies the Hawaiian lifestyle like a day on the water.
A Maui sportfishing adventure from Lahaina may take you around the islands of Lanai, Molokai, Kahoolawe or Molokini, offering a fishing guest a rare experience afforded only a few of Hawaii's visitors! On our Maui trips you'll have a change to hook up to a variety of marlin species, mahi mahi (dorado), ahi (tuna), ono (wahoo) and more.
A Kona sportfishing expedition will lead on a hunt for some of the world's largest gamefish, into some of the finest sportfishing grounds available.
Other added benefits are the fabulous tropical sunrises, whale watching, maybe a spinner dolphin playing in the wake. As long-time residents of Maui and Kona, feel free to ask our opinions about the other activities, restaurants, hotels and places to see that you might otherwise miss during your stay in the islands.
We are one of the fastest boats in Lahaina Harbor which gives you more time where the bite is!
WHAT SHOULD WE BRING?
You will need to arrange for food and beverages for the day. It is best to do this the night before as there's not much open early in the morning. We'd be happy to put you in touch with a caterer who can prepare a nice deli luch for you and your party for the trip. We will supply all the ice and fishing gear. Contrary to popular belief, you DO NOT need a fishing license to go sportfishing. Oh, and don't forget your sunscreen, and and/or sunglasses, camera and other personal items! And, of course, any "lucky charms" you may choose to bring with you will not be discouraged.
DO WE GET TO KEEP THE FISH WE CATCH?
Absolutely - every last one! While many sport fishing companies in Hawaii will tell you "the fish has to stay with the boat," Start Me Up's policy is exactly the opposite. If you catch it, you can keep it! We'll even filet enough fish for you and your party to enjoy a scrumptious seafood dinner. Keep in mind that there are no canning/processing/shipping facilities on Maui, so we recommend fishing with us earlier in your trip so that you have fresh fish for the remainder of your vacation. If you don't want to keep your fish, you can also choose to have it mounted - just ask your captain for more information.
WHAT ARE YOUR BOOKING PROCEDURES/CANCELLATION POLICIES?
If you book a sportfishing charter with us, we will take a credit card number to hold your spot. 72 hours in advance of the charter your card will be charged the full amount. If you'd prefer to pay by Traveller's Check or another form of payment, make sure tonlet us know, so we do not charge your account. Should you need to cancel your charter, you will need to contact us by phone no later than 48 hours in advance of your departure.
WHAT ABOUT FOUL WEATHER CANCELLATIONS?
On occasion, we are forced to cancel charters due to poor weather conditions. In such cases, the captain always makes the call. We will inform you of such an occurrence as soon as possible. You WILL NOT be charged for cancellations made by the captain. If foul weather is suspected and you are concerned, be sure to call us. We'll keep you informed of the status of your trip.
