Steady Winter Time Action in South Florida and The Everglades

2017-02-07 08:31:49

Flamingo out of Everglades national park continues to provide very good fishing this winter. The highlight of the month has definitely been the snook bite. We have been catching great numbers of big snook in almost every trip. The fishing really heats up around cold weather, north wind and low tides, targeting ditches with live shrimp, jigs, gulp shrimp and buck tails. For flyfishing and sight fishing, shallow mud bays have been the best places to find laid up snook and cruising reds, warming themselves up during sunny days.

Red fishing has been on the slower side. There have been a few decent size reds around but We have had to work harder to find them. Black drum, nice sea trout, jacks and mangrove snapper have also been in the mix. The gulf has seen steady action with Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, cobia and sharks.

The big tarpon have also been around the coast, river mouths and inside bays during hot/calm weather days. Expect the tarpon fishing to get better as we get into late February/March. I will be mostly flyfishing or throwing plugs at these silver kings. Busy tarpon season in the keys and the Everglades is right around the corner! I still have some tarpon days available this spring, Spinning or fly fishing alike.

Give me a call and let's go fishing!!
