Northern Quebec fishing camps Fly Fishing Arctic Char and Brook Trout

Arctic Quebec Fishing Outfitter

fishingArctic Adventures is a licensed outfitting organization celebrating 43 years of experience hosting anglers in Arctic Quebec. Over the years, Arctic Adventures has built an enviable reputation for consistently providing our guests with quality fishing vacations and personalized professional service.

The Inuit of Nunavik welcome you to share their hospitality, their culture and their knowledge of the land and its wildlife.  Arctic Adventures operates  two Arctic Char and trout fishing camps in Nunavik, Arctic Quebec.  All trips are staged out of Kuujjuaq on Ungava Bay.  Daily commercial air service from Montreal to both Inuit communities provides our guests with quick, reliable and comfortable travel north.

Arctic Adventures Fly Fishing Trips

fishingThe Payne River Fishing Camp is strategically located near very productive waters where sleek, silvery Arctic Char feed on shrimp, krill and capelin during the brief arctic summer. The Tunulik II Fishing Camp is located on the Lagrevé River where Sea Run Brook Trout migrate in mid-August and Arctic Char later in the season. The river also holds two to six pound Native Brook Trout which are protected by our camp’s own “live release” conservation policy.

A visit to one of Arctic Adventures fishing camps is more than a guided fishing trip. It is a totally overwhelming experience; it is an opportunity to
spend time in the land beyond the tree line where summer days are long and nights are short.

Exciting Arctic Char fishing at Payne River Fishing Camp

LOCATION
fishingThe Payne is a major Arctic river flowing into Ungava Bay. It is the main watershed for the northwest tip of Quebec. The Payne River Camp is situated on the 60th parallel, 1100 miles due north of Montreal; 150 miles northwest of Kuujjuaq, and approximately 25 miles upriver from the village of Kangirsuk. The camp is only minutes away from the best Arctic Char fishing to be found anywhere in North America.

THE FISHING
The significant tides in Ungava Bay fill and drain the Payne fjord of salt water twice each day. Guides work according to the tidal schedule and know where the fish stack up when tides are lowest. Besides offering non-stop action for Arctic Char from our 24 foot freighter canoes, anglers can explore the shores by wading.

fishingFish are plentiful at Payne Bay and fly fishermen can experience dynamic action using streamers, dry and wet flies. A variety of effective fly patterns are available for sale at camp. Arctic Char will attack most silvery spoons, but anglers with spinning gear have the best results using two and three inch Daredevles, Mepps spinners in sizes two and three, and various colored three inch Pixies.

YOUR LODGINGS
The main lodge at the Payne River Fishing Camp has indoor toilets, showers, a dining room and lounge area where our guests enjoy friendly conversations with their Inuit hosts. Guests stay in cabins adjacent to the main lodge which are oil heated and equipped with linen and sleeping bags.

A diesel generator supplies the camp with electricity and a satellite telephone system keeps our camp in touch with our office in Kuujjuaq. Guests are served three hearty home cooked meals each day which normally includes a delicious mid-day shore lunch prepared by our Inuit guides.

Tunulik II Fishing Camp, one of the "World's 5 Best Brookie Waters" - Fly Fisherman Magazine

LOCATION
fishingThe Tunulik II Fishing Camp is located on an exposed granite bluff overlooking the Lagrevé River, 1 ½ miles inland from Ungava Bay. The river offers 2 miles of pools to discover below camp and seven miles of great fishing waters above camp for the exclusive use of our angling guests! The camp is accessed by a Twin-Otter on wheels which lands on a natural air strip behind camp. This camp only operates for a short period during the peak of the migration from mid August to mid September.

THE FISHING
The river is small, by Arctic standards, seldom more than one hundred feet wide and usually from two to five feet deep. The steady current in normal water conditions allows anglers with chest waders access to most of the rivers fishable waters. Sea run Brookies and Native Brookies up to seven pounds and Arctic Char later in the season migrate through these waters each year. One guide equipped with a 20 foot freighter canoe and 20 H.P. Mercury jet outboard motor accompanies three anglers on the river each day. Fly fishermen find sinking lines very effective when fishing with streamers such as the Magog Smelt, Grey Ghost or Michey Finn. Dry fly fishing when hatches occur is fast and furious.

YOUR LODGINGS
Although the Tunulik II Fishing Camp operates only four weeks each year, this camp's facilities include three solid oil heated sleeping cabins accommodating two guests each, a separate kitchen/dining cabin, shower facilities, generated electricity, freezers and satellite telephone communications.
