Fellow Anglers:

We will make an effort each month to keep you posted on events, tournaments and information concerning fishing mainly in Ecuador’s premier destinations and our partners in Argentina.

Galapagos Islands:

Our Fleet Grows!!!
We are getting excited about our growing fleet and the completion of the Big Fish due ready for charters Feb 2010. This brand new 34 ft custom sportfisher will be powered by 2 Suzuki 250 HP 4 stroke engines. The new boat will be complete with state of the art electronics and everything needed to provide you the best fishing and comfort in the Galapagos Islands. Next is our newest addition the Patricia which is still under construction but will be ready for charter late Feb 2010. Patricia is a 36 ft custom sportfisher that will be powered by a pair of Suzuki 300HP 4 stroke engines.

Careful With Diesel Boats!!
We cannot stress enough that if you choose to fish the Galapagos Islands do not under any circumstance book a boat with diesel engines. Whether you fish with us or not, there are reasons why most fishing and dive boats use gasoline engines. For many years we operated diesel engines boats and after many down days and huge headaches I finally had the diesel analyzed in a reliable lab. The analysis concluded that the sulfur content was 3 to 5 times the recommended tolerable amount for performance diesel engines. Not only was it highly contaminated in sulfur but saltwater, water and kerosene were added to justify fuel stolen from tankers before they arrived in the Galapagos. The most expensive filtration systems could remove water and other contaminants but do not properly remove sulfur and kerosene. We have seen many charters ruined by an unscrupulous company offering fancy diesel boats in the Galapagos. I feel it is important for clients to be informed. Aside from our own fleet there are safe and reliable boats from operators such as Fishing Finatics (Pete Santini , Boston phone 617-823-7942). You must also consider that if you book a 4 or 5 day trip to go to Galapagos on a diesel boat most problems involved in diesel engines require taking half the motor apart to repair which can take days and even weeks. And effectively ruin your charter. Outboard engines require rarely more than a few hours or a day to repair most problems. We carry an ample stock of parts for all our fleet’s engines.

2010 Fishing Tournament
Ecuagringo is currently working with local authorities and companies to put together and sponsor a tournament for the first week of June 2010. Prices may consist of free charters, renowned artisanal crafts, airline tickets and more. We will keep you updated on this event and will have subscriptions open by late November 2009.

2009 and 2010 Available Booking Dates
A slow worldwide economy has been a factor to just about every charter operation in the world. We are not the exception by far. Nevertheless we want to thank our loyal and new clients for choosing t fish with us these last few years and those to come. Our company has been able to keep a reasonable rate of bookings the last two years despite a slow economy. 2010 is booking up faster than the last 2 years. If you want to fish Galapagos then please don’t hesitate to book your dates. There are a few dates available in Nov and Dec 2009 as well.

Salinas and Manta:
Salinas continues to be Ecuador’s top coastal resort town. With several hotels, many restaurants and ardent night life it has become a local and international attraction. The fishing has been legendary but due to commercial fishing the historical catches are a thing of the past if gill nets and longlines do not become prohibited. Unfortunately the current policies do not shed light or and end of a tunnel for that matter. Nevertheless when Salina sis on fire it may be one of the few place in the pacific left to catch a grand slam. It is not uncommon to see and catch blue, black, striped marlin and sailfish in the same day. Granted water conditions and the stars may have to align but it is still possible.

Manta is a port town which experienced enormous growth due to an American base that at times had over 5000 troops stationed. Still today you can enjoy restaurants and clubs that have a mix of American/Ecuadorian. Good hotels and top restaurants offer visitors a wonderful experience. Some of the best black marlin and blue marlin fishing in the Eastern Pacific is found here. The Panama current tends to end in the area of the Isla de La Plata. A serious of reefs and under water mounds attracts black marlin inshore and the deep drops and banks offshore attract striped and blue marlin. In the last 3 years Manta is really become the place to go in South America for blacks and blues.

South American Destinations:
Argentina, our partner and outfitter Mario Battiston offers two of the best lodges to fish for golden salmon (dorado) in the province of Corrientes. Battiston will treat you to Argentina’s best cuts of beef, pork, lamb and poultry as well as the most discerning wines. Whether you want fly fish or use spinning tackle you can bring your own or it can be provided for you. Argentina is one of the World’s most beautiful countries. Experiencing the golden salmon on any type of light tackle is a thrill matched by very few fish. The golden salmon is an acrobatic, powerful and fierce combatant. Battiston not only offers some of the best fishing in Argentina but excellent wingshooting as well. Martin Vivanco is Battiston’s big game partner and offers the best in axis, boar, fallow, red stag and most of the game available to hunt. To contact Mario Battiston doradofly@goyanet.com.ar.

Peru has shown extreme potential in becoming a hotspot for freshwater fishing as well as hot barreled wingshooting. With the current changes in the laws we are working to reopen this destination to fishermen and hunters very soon. Please check with us in the future if you are interested in this exciting destination.
