With the winter behind us we have been out having a look around the countryside and the rivers and streams are looking good !
With no real heavy flooding this year the river beds are stable and the Trout have had a good spawning . Surveys of Trout numbers and redds are looking healthy.
A few early mayflies are already starting to hatch on favorable days and the Trout are taking advantage of this food source .
There is always some interruptions from nature in the early season but hungry Trout and good rivers always make it a good time to come to New Zealand and chase Trout. It is probably the best time to catch those â€œBig Dumb Fishâ€ ( if there is such a thing !)
Flights to New Zealand are as cheap as they have ever been and with accommodation ranging from back packer to fishing lodges there is options for every ones pocket.
Nowâ€™s as good a time as any to take that Trout Fishing Trip of a life time !
