Streamer fishing is picking up especially on the Colorado. We are also seeing good hatches of BWO''s, Midges, Red Quills, some PMD's and Caddis. Fishing Big Dry Flies with a dropper such as a small gray BWO or small black midge is very productive. They will also take that Big Dry Fly on occasion. Different sections have different bugs coming off so it's important to change with the main bug that is coming off the water. On a float this past week we were fishing many patterns and noticed a lot of black and gray midges. We switched and took several fish including a 20" Rainbow on 6x dropper. The Roaring Fork is low and very clear so 5 or 6x tippits and small BWO patterns are producing. Caddis are hatching late in the evening until dark. Red Quills are also a good fly fished wet. The Frying Pan has PMD's Still some Drakes, Red Quills and small Caddis. With Fall in the air the cool nights and as the water warms bugs get active and so do the fish.We will continually see fish feeding to fatten for the winter so it;s a great time to get out and enjoy those strong awesome fishing.
Streamers that have worked as of late are the black and rust Slump Buster, Dave's Epoxy Minnow, and a small Wooly bugger fished behind a much larger Streamer. We are open for some bookings for floats on the Coloradoi below Grizzly Creek which has fished the best lately and will get better and better on streamers. This section has very few Commercial Trips since I am one of two Permit holders . The last several trips I have done have produced some great fish on Streamers Dries and nymphs. Have a great Fall fishing. Dave |
