The spring has made its way into the Northeast and so have the striped bass, hungry from their annual migration north. Boston Harbor is full of bait, including a large number of herring. Over the past week, the harbor has been blitzing with fish, most of them in the 25-35 inch range!!! This past weekend produced multiple 30 plus inch fish on the fly! Nervous Water is in the water, ready for a great fishing season! We had a terrific season last year and I am looking forward to the coming summer.

A report on this past weekend: 5/15-5/17

The fish are here and there are some big fish in the mix. Is it good or bad luck when the first fish of the season is a 35” monster caught by my fiancée?? I was out on the water last night with Jill for a few hours to scout for a charter this morning. We found a large school of fish feeding on herring. Although they were not busting the surface, we were able to sit on top of them for the few hours we were out there. We were catching them on fly and rubber shad, including the 35” linesider.

This morning I had a long time client, Rick on board for a few hours of fishing. Although he has usually fished with a spinning rod, with an occasional fly, this morning was all fly! I don’t think he will go back to the spinning rod. After finding fish in a similar spot to last night, he was able to hook into two nice fish on his first two casts! Not a bad way to start the morning. We brought quite a few fish to the boat this morning, the largest being a nice 32” fish that gave Rick a terrific fight on the 8 wt. It was actually the first striper caught on the new Hatch reel. Check them out at www.hatchoutdoors.com.
It was another great morning on the water. The fishing slowed some as the wind picked up, but we were still able to pick up a few fish as the morning ended. The fishing is on fire and will only get better. Book your charter today!
