Well today was no April Fools day for the Playmate, with honeymooners Jonathan and Vicky nfrom Derbyshire, England on board, they enjoyed and action packed trip in rather sloppy seas, our day started out on an area called the "Short Course" and about 30 minutes after deploying the lines, were rewarded with a quadruple strike, one dropped off almost immediately, Vicky took the outrigger line, while Jonathan the downrigger, his fish came to the boat first, a Wahoo about 30#, then Vicky's came to gaff, hers was a super 54# Wahoo, then they both worked on the next 2 fish, only to discover it was the same fish having eaten both the downrigger and outrigger baits, but another 50 #plus fish.
No more strikes intil we reached Challenger Banks, then another double of Wahoo, by days end the tally was 11 Wahoo weighing 365# a very resptfull catch. At the weigh in to se who had the largest fish of the day, Jonathan's was up first and weighed 53.5# then Vicky's turn, all eyes on the scale as it bounced to to 54# beating husband Jonathan's by a mere 8 ounces, and a very proud Vicky showed her excitment at having outfished husband Jonathan.
April 3rd on a 1/2 day with Philip Vandoninck and business guests Kelli and Peter on board, we had a tripple strike within 20 minutes of setting out the lines, unfortunately true to Wahoo fishing all three dropped off......no worries though as we had another fish on 5 minutes laterresulting in a fat 52# Wahoo, at days end, with the seas and wind increasing we had 3 Wahoo from 7 strikes all 7 fish were pulling line off the reels before 4 of them escaped.. Check out the pictures on our photo gallery web page.
Sunday April 5th with Andrew, Jamie and friends, another nice day after a nasty blow on Saturday.
We caught 3 out of 6 strike on the edge before going over to Challenger Banks, where we missed the first bite there, then after going all the way the the SE Corner without another bite, checked out our mooring we keep there to tell the direction and strength of the current, decided it was too strong to anchor the boat, and the tide going into the wind. so we did 3 drifts again without a bite, although a Wahoo did show up in the chum slick.
Then back on the troll and immediately had a tripple strike of Wahoo, one dropped off after about 5 minutes, but we managed to boat both the other fish both going 50# plus, rerigged again and had a double, catching both of these, again nice fish 45 & 50#, then the bite slowed down we added another 2 Wahoo's and headed for home, definetly a late bite, as we had passed several commercial boats going home, as we arrived on the Banks just before mid morning. check out the photo's on our web page
Monday April 6th on a 1/2 day trip from Waterlot Inn with a group organized by Tammy, got a late start, on our way out to the SW Edge , things looked bleak intil about 2.30 pm when we caught our 1st fish a nice WaHoo of 50#, then as we worked our way back towards land, a double header, 1 dropped off and we boated the other, then another double one broke the leader or was cut off bu another Wahoo, altogether 8 strikes and 4 Wahoo boated. more pictures on our web site.
Wednesda6y April 9th with Wayne and son Cody on board endured extremely rough conditions that deterioated all morning long, we caught 1 Wahoo about 40# trying to get as far as Peter Riley's point , but after a bout of sea sickness we turned to the East and went with the wind along the South side of the Island, making a much more comfortable ride. No bites until we got to Mid Ocean Club point when all heck broke loose with tripples and doubles and a few singles, we caught 7 more Wahoo there, the biggest was caught by young Cody at 57#, Dad Wayne was close behind with a couple of 48-50# fish.
Aprilm14th with Ricky, Hamish, Cookie and friends off the Mega Yatch Martha Ann, they had a very slow day, we fast trolled out to the SW Corner of Challenger with the goal of trying to catch some Tuna, we anchored there and caught 5 Almaco Jacks 2 Amberjacks3 Coney's and 1 Monkey Rockfish 10#, all on deerp jigging lures.
Then moved to SE Corner and picked up a nice 45# Wahoo in the chum slick, then moved up th the Eastern Turn, with no action there , no sign of Tunas anywhere.
April 19th Picked up Keith and Robin June at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, and snaked a 48# Wahoo on Peter Reileys on our way over to Challenger Banks, where we caught 11 Almaco jacks up to 12# 3 Coneys and a Blackfin Tuna by deep Jigging.
April 20th with Hamish, Cookie and guests off the Martha Ann again, we fast trolled all the way to Argus Banks, missed 3 bitesthere, one was a screamer, then dropped anchor , the tide direction was excellent, but the anchor kept ppopping out, and one guest was pretty sick by this time, so Cookie ordered us to steam home, just as the Tunas started busting all around up.
April 25th. Picked up Steven Warrington and party at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess for a 3/4 dsy charter, we started on the Short Course and trolled up to Sally Tuckers then over to Challenger Banks all along the Northern Side of the Banks to Louies Point with only one mystery bite, upon rounding Louies Point we csaught a Wahoo of 27#, half a dozen passes and 30 minutes later we had 4 Wahoo, 44,45,27 & 18# and a break off, as quickly as the bite started it ended, then we haeded back home without another bite.
April 27th with good friend Hooks Cooper, Brother-in-law Herb and son Paul, and grandaughter Jackie, we powered out to Challenger Banks, set the trolls along the northern side, missed one fish, then headed for Argus banks, passing through a pod of Dolphin Mamals, who plasyed with us for a few minutes, then came across a pod of white Minke Whales.
After ariving on Argus we went North towards the North West turn, based on the report of some Tuna being caught there the day before, caught 1 Wahoo, a first for Paul, then anchored and chummed for 2 hours, for 2 Coneys 2 Almaco Jacks 1 Amberjack then headed homewards. Caught 1 more Wahoo also a firstr for Herb, missed a fish on Challenger, and that was it.
April 28th With Friends Donald Liebich and William Frein staying a5 Tuckers Point Club, we started out on the Short Course and troolled out to Challenger Banks without a bite, our first bite came almost immediately we got to the Bank, a nice start Wahoo 55# set the lines and went back over the same spot as the first strike, bingo another fat Wahoo 56#, 1 each for Don and Bill, kept going towards Louie Point, had 2 baits cut on the way there,, upon rounding Louies Point caughtr a 35# Wahoo re rigged and went back over the same spot bingo another Wahoo this one went 18/20#, but while fightin this fish a wicked strike on the other downrigger that snapped the line right at the waterling, a big fish with some place to go. All in all we had 9 strikes to ctch 4 fish.
Tight lines to all. |
