South shore Lake Ontario has already begun producing King Salmon in anticipation of what looks like it's going to be another great season. Cold water means fish are still falling for crankbaits trolled slow, and anglers finding Brown Trout, Coho, and Steelhead in their mixed catches, as well as LOTS of lake trout averaging 8-12lbs.
Kings also falling for spoons fished in deeper water, but as those fish move inshore oner the next week or two, expect explosive action and lots of easy 5-fish (per person) limits of Kings averaging 12-18lbs with a few going 20+
Niagara river producing very well for Steelhead on the drift now that the Lake Erie ice boom has come out. Expect fishing to improve this month and into May. Reduced boat traffic and fishing pressure often means that the river is under fished this time of year.
