The largemouth and smallmouth bass bite has improved in the last couple of weeks. The bass are on spawning beds in Lake Havasu and in the river. Water temperatures are in the low 60's. The water in the river is gin clear so a good pair of sunglasses and a quiet approach is necessary.
Plastic worms and jigs are getting most of the fish, but small Crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps are working also. Striped bass are being caught all over the lake and are moving into the river for their annual spawn.
Not much top water action for the stripers yet. Trolled anchovies, Rat-L-Traps and Stump-Jumpers are working well early. After the sun comes up its a deep water bite, 50-60 feet deep on cut anchovies. As the temperatures rise in the Havasu City area, the bite will be wide open in the lake and river.
The annual Lake Havasu Striper Derby is scheduled the 16th and 17th of May. Its fun and the tournament has a lot of prizes.
