THE CODY/YELLOWSTONE REGION FISHING REPORT

November 14, 2007

The fall Baetis and midge hatches are providing some great dry fly fishing right now.

We have some great early winter fishing ahead of us. Rivers, streams and lakes are fishing very well.

SHOSHONE RIVER
The Shoshone River is an overlooked jewel offering lots of fine fishing opportunities. The North Fork, South Fork, and Lower Shoshone provide anglers with miles of river to wade or float for wild rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout.More Info on the Shoshone River

NORTH FORK of the SHOSHONE

Done until Spring 08

SOUTH FORK of the SHOSHONE - Mostly clear and fishable. Nymphs and streamers are the best bet for fishing the S. Fork in November.

LOWER SHOSHONE The winter flows are making for some easy angling right now. Fishing is very good. Streamers are taking fish on the edges. Parachute Adams, olive or gray Sparkle Duns, Griffith's gnats, and even Royal Trudes are working on top. Sow bugs, scuds, San Juan worms and bead-headed nymphs are taking trout below the surface.

CLARK'S FORK of the YELLOWSTONE RIVER
Fed by a hundred, or more, glacial lakes draining the Beartooth Plateau, the Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone is a fly fisherman's dream river. The Clark's Fork has three distinct sections, each fish differently and each section has its own personality, requiring fly fishermen to change tactics on each section in order to keep the rod bent and the reel singing.More Info on the Clark's Fork River

CLARKS FORK of the YELLOWSTONE Beginning to freeze up. A few trout can still be caught on droppers and streamers fished deep in the middle of the day.

CANYON SECTION OF CLARKS FORK Freezing up. Low water temps and little sunlight reaching the Canyon floor.

LOWER CLARKS FORK Hatches are still occurring, but not in enough numbers to bring all the trout to the surface. Expect streamers and nymphs to be your best bet. Orange Blossoms, MRS Buggers, and Sculpin Buggers seem to be taking the bigger fish.

SUNLIGHT, DEAD INDIAN and CRANDALL CREEKS These streams are fishing much slower with the cooler water temps. Drop smaller beadheads behind attractors for a little action.

YELLOWSTONE PARK
Enjoy spectacular scenery and great fishing on the Lamar River, Soda Butte Creek, Slough Creek, the Yellowstone River, and Yellowstone Lake.More Info on Yellowstone Park

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - YELLOWSTONE RIVER- Closed to fishing until 2008. YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - YELLOWSTONE LAKE-Closed to fishing until 2008

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - FIREHOLE/GIBBON/MADISON Closed to fishing until 2008.

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - LAMAR/ SLOUGH CREEK/ SODA BUTTE -

Closed to fishing until 2008

LAKES and RESERVOIRS
Fishermen preferring all types of angling tactics have discovered the treasures found in local ponds and reservoirs created for irrigation and agrarian uses. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has stocked many of these water storage impoundments with a variety of trout. Due to the mineral content of the mountainous soils, the water in these man-made lakes are rich with aquatic insects and crustaceans which translates into good to trophy sized trout in most of these impoundments. For the fly fisherman, this also translates into a rod-bending great time.More Info on Lakes and Reservoirs

EAST NEWTON LAKE Scuds, leeches, small streamers, and Bow Tie midges are working the best.

LUCE RESERVOIR Slow. Slowly fished streamers deep, or sight casting tho the few cruisers with midge pupae.

HOGAN RESERVOIR - Buggers, Bowties, Adams, and stripped Hare's Ears.

SOUTH FORK ABATEMENT DIKE - Buggers, leech patterns and Zonkers.
