Today was a half day fishing trip I guided for The Lodge at Moosehead Lake in Greenville. We started fishing at 8:30am with threatening thunder storms in 2 directions, the water was finally down to a fishable level, it has been high and fast all spring. The Kurz family is somewhat experienced and has pretty decent casting ability, and were great folks to be guiding. We had a typical Maine fishing trip, rain, fog, sun, and mosquitos! But the fish were hungry! We started off fishing bug meisters and gradually swapped to elk haired caddis and then to dark henryville specials. There was a tremendous dark brown mayfly hatch and the fish were gobbling them up, we went with a black gnat and scored well on brook trout and landlocked salmon, everybody catching multiple fish. The water was 66 degrees today, hope the bite stays up for a while longer. There are a lot of fish in the river right now. If anybody needs these flies, try Fly Fishing Only in Fairfield, or Maine Guide Fly Shop in Greenville.
