Bocas Del Toro Fishing

Isla Colon, Panama Panama Sportfishing Charter

Atlantic sailfish at about 100 lbs are being caught just offshore from our Lodge in March/April. Trolling around Bird Island/Swan’s Cay local and ‘gringo’ fishermen are picking up sailfish, tuna and red snapper. This is in 60 to 200 ft of water, just a mile or two offshore, in front of the Lodge. The water goes to 2000 ft at 3 miles and over 5000 ft at 9 miles, in some areas…

Yellowfin were caught in large numbers in March/April (the dryest months) with the largest reported at 62 lbs. Again, this is just a mile or so offshore.

We have caught consistently, over several years, Dorado into the fifty pound range, in the 5 to 20 mile offshore range. There are several weedlines which develop from the area rivers, which consistently provide good habitat. Last September, a friend caught a 20 lb Dorado on fly gear. It was an absolutely hot/flat day and 15 miles offshore was like a swimming pool. We trolled by a large tree off the weedlines and spotted 4 dorado to the 40 lb range ‘hanging out.’ Long story short, we ended up pulling one with fly gear. They swam under the boat, so we pulled out a long gaff, but couldn’t make it happen. Anyway, it was a great day of Wahoo and Dorado….The Wahoo were in the 25 lb range.

Panama Fishing CharterRed Snapper are caught within a mile of shore, year round. Up to 40 lbs.

TARPON – The tarpon are HUGE. I have swam with tarpon six and seven feet long off our beach at the Lodge. This was in March and April. I talked with a couple of the locals who work at my site about the size and consistency of the Tarpon. Their reaction was, ‘of course’ when it’s dry they come right into shore and feed on the sardines at the river mouths. Since the locals only handline, they don’t bother with tarpon. Our foreman tells me stories about when they used to harpoon the tarpon at night.

Also, there are snook in the rivers. There is even a river called, ‘Rio Robalo’ – snook river. Also, a point - "Punta Robalo."

Bocas Del Toro Fishing Charters

The boat and gear we have is first class. We have an inshore and offshore boat. The inshore is a 17 ft center console with a 90 Mariner. The offshore boat is a 28 ft catamaran, Pro Sports 2860 WA, with dual 200 Mercury’s. We can get to our fishing destinations quickly, maximizing your fishing time. We change the reel line regularly and check the reel drags everytime out.Panama Boca del Toro Fishing Charter

bait) Excludes lunch/drinks..

Big boat = $350 per day + cost of gas (Includes Captain, mate, gear, boat, bait)

The gear for the offshore boat is Penn 30’s to 80’s, as well as, 4 new graphite/carbon Penn sets at about 30 pounds. The gear is well kept. We can troll a large selection of plastic lures, sew up fresh bait or go live. I’m still learning how to ‘kite fish..’

Panama Boca del Toro Fishing Lodge Lodge Bocas del Toro

The Lodge Bocas del Toro is complete. It took us 18 months, but it looks good. The Lodge is 11,000 square feet with private and common space. We have 20 private acres of high bluff, sandy beach and jungle to the back. We have lots of birds, 4 kinds of monkeys, iguanas, etc that live in and around the property. This is a great trip for couples. My wife and daughter live here, so the place is prepared to take good care of those not fishing. There are actually about ten great outings we can arrange for you on non-fishing days, from island hopping, snorkeling/diving, dolphin watching, turtles, etc.

Rates

We have all inclusive rates for the Lodging and meals, starting at $100 per night. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will also pick you up at the airport and return you to the airport for your departure. The rate also includes access to our snorkeling gear and kayaks.

Panama FishingMeals/Food

We have developed the apartments into kitchenettes, so if you’d prefer to cook for yourself some nights we can provide you the ingredients. We will also have some ‘family nights’ where we will prepare a common meal for everyone and dine together. We have found that many guests enjoy this communal approach. Also, there are several restaurants on the beach nearby which feature fresh seafood and mixed menus. We can offer you transportation to and from on these occasions.

Bar

The Lodge Bocas del Toro has a full honor bar. If you’d like something ‘special’ available upon your arrival, please request. Most things can be found in Panama with some notice.
