Nestor Falls Fishing Lodge Lake of the Woods
Ontario is an international fresh water fishing destination and Lake of the Woods is one of Ontario’s top destinations. Stevens Bay, an excellent spawning ground for all species, has numerous bays and coves with weed beds that drop off to deep water. What really sets the area apart from other locations is the extremely low fishing pressure. It is not uncommon to fish all day and not see another boat.
For Crappie fishing you should bring 4 or six pound test line. Crappies are so numerous from late May until early June they can be caught in great numbers right from the dock. In spring time we suggest ¼ ounce Road Runner or Beetle Spin lures in assorted colors, slip bobbers and ¼ ounce jigs tipped with minnows or a pink tube.
From Mid-September until season’s end you’ll find these tasty pan fish schooled up in the numerous deep holes within a few minutes of the island. We recommend ¼ ounce jigs tipped with a minnow and small jigging spoons such as Swedish Pimples and DoAlls
There are countless small islands to provide the ideal setting for a traditional north woods shore lunch of walleye, baked beans, fried potatoes and all the fixings. We can set you up with everything you need for a shore lunch or it’s included if you hire a guide. To catch Canada’s tastiest fresh water fish we recommend you bring a 6 ½ to 7 ½ foot light- to medium-light rod with 6 or 8 pound test line, ¼ to 3/8 ounce jigs, and jigging spoons such as Swedish Pimples and DoAlls.
The heavy smallmouth population is supported by the extensive availability of shallow bays and rocky shoreline. The spawning season for Bass begins in late May with catch-and-release only during the month of June. We recommend using ultralight and light rods with artificial lures including topwater, shallow- to deep-running crank baits, and plastic worms.
From May through mid-October, Northern Pike are plentiful in the extensive weed beds throughout Stevens Bay. We recommend 6 ½ to 7 ½ -foot medium-heavy to heavy rods with a minimum 20 pound test line.
Boats and Motors We maintain a fleet of sixteen foot, deep-V
fishing boats with quiet, smooth-running 40 hp, four stroke outboard
motors designed to handle the challenges of weather. They are outfitted
with pedestal seats, casting platform, live well, trolling motor and
depth finder. In addition, we have a fleet of wide body, sixteen foot,
deep-V boats with 25 hp outboard motors for use with our hunting
packages. Fuel is included when using our boats in conjunction with an
American plan package. Canoes are also available for your use.
Lake of the Woods Nestor Falls Ontario Fishing Guide Service
We have fishing guides available with many years of experience who will
take you to the ideal spots based on the conditions of the day. Perry
and Trevor are our full-time guides and we have a team of part time
guides who are very knowledgeable on fishing Lake of the Woods. Your
guide will be ready to leave the dock at 8:00 a.m. for a full day of
fishing including a traditional shore lunch. Guides also clean and
package your catch however they are in demand so you need to book as far
in advance as possible.
Kishkutena Lake Remote Camp
For those who want an even more remote location we offer fly-in trips to our Kishkutena Lake facility. If you like the privacy of wilderness, the serenity of solitude and to live your dreams of catching fish, you’ll love the settings at this remote fly-in outpost.
The lake is approximately seven miles in length, over sixty feet deep at its deepest point and features numerous bays and rock piles. Scrappy smallmouth bass in the one to five pound range are abundant and 50+ inch muskies have been caught-and-released at Kishkutena. The lake also offers up the mighty Lake Trout that can be found in the deeper waters of this pristine lake.
“Kish” is located east of Nestor Falls and is about a twenty-minute flight from the dock at Young’s Camp.
Our cabin there can accommodate up to seven people, has a kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and a hot-and-cold water shower room. It is equipped with solar powered lights, a propane refrigerator and stove, backup generator and cell phone to communicate with camp. Also provided are linens, blankets, towels, cookware, cutlery, dishes, barbeque and outside cooker.
There are two 14-foot boats with six horsepower outboard motors and two 16-foot boats with 15 horsepower motors. Both are equipped with swivel seats and life jackets, muskie cradles and gas. The 16-foot boats are also equipped with a casting platform and bow mount trolling motor.
A very popular trip with our guests is a 6 night/5 day combined package where you spend half of the time at our main base on Lake of the Woods and the other half at the outpost on Kishkutena Lake.
