Long Lake Ontario Fishing

Our areas spectacular sports fishing and awesome big game hunting are now complemented by the comfort you will experience in our brand new wilderness lodge and lakeside cottages. Northern Woods Lodge is an excellent choice for the sportsmen or group fishing trip.

Fishing:

Abundant Walleyes, monster trophy Northern Pike, lunker Lake Trout and beautiful wild Brook Trout are the dreams that come true at Northern Woods Lodge. Walleyes in Long Lake are big and plentiful with guests catching-&-releasing way more then their limit. Northern Pike reach 20+ pounds but common in many good eating sizes. Lake Trout are also plentiful and common in the 2 to 6 pound range but get much bigger. This areas claim-to-fame is the extraordinary Brook Trout (Speckled Trout) fishing. We have both spring-fed lakes and streams that are just stuffed with Brook Trout of every size including 5+ pound trophies.

Hunting:

For over 20 years we have been one of the top hunting outfitters in Canada and specializing in Black Bear hunting and Moose hunting, which take place at our new lodge in Terrace Bay, Ontario. We also offer the top Whitetail Deer hunt in Canada at our Whitetail hunting camp near Dryden, Ontario. Dryden is the #1 hotspot in Ontario for big trophy Whitetail Deer.

Lodge & Cottages:

We recognized the demand for a smaller high quality resort that offers extraordinary customer service so we built one. Our new lodge offers our customers a remote and peaceful experience with all the amenities of home. Our new knotty pine cabins are completely furnished and fully modern with 3 bedrooms (all new beds) and 3-piece bathrooms.

Walleye Fishing:

Walleye are literally caught everywhere in Long Lake. From the river, from bays, on sandbars, rock ledges and even suspended at times. The walleye get more plentiful and larger as the summer goes on. You can be catching walleye within minutes of getting into your boat.

In July and August the walleye are everywhere and of every size. You can catch them in bays, fast water, river current, creek mouths, etc. Many of these walleyes are in the 5 to 8 pound range. The walleye fishing in Long Lake is most impressive -- second to none.

Brook Trout Fishing:

The brook trout fishing is excellent in the river and a few bays in the main lake. They are aggressive fish, and will hit almost anything.

In cases of higher water levels they will move up further into the creeks and come back into the river and lake in lower water conditions.

2 to 3 pound brook trout are common and we have caught brookies in the 7 and 8 pound range.

Brookies tend to move in and out of holes in the river. One day it will be full of brook trout and the next day it will have walleye feeding there. (I have personally caught over 25 brook trout in the 2 to 3 pound range in one hole!)

You can also catch Pike and Lake Trout.

Long Lake

Long Lake stretches from our location North to Highway 11. It is approximately 50 miles long, although quite narrow. It is large enough to keep the most adventurous interests and narrow enough for the less experienced to navigate.

Long Lake is well known for its trophy northern. It also has walleye, lake trout, whitefish and wild trophy brook trout.

South of the lodge there is approximately 20 miles of river before any obstructions.

Long Lake is surrounded by hundreds of smaller lakes that have seldom seen any anglers. We keep boats on smaller lakes that are teaming with northerns, walleye, lake trout and brook trout. Some of these lakes are drive-to, some are accessed with quads and some you can walk to, all close to the lodge.
