Ohio Fly Fishing Guide
Fly fishing for steelhead, trout, salmon and all species of fish on the tributaries of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.Ohio Fly Fishing for trout, salmon, steelhead

My name is Robert Williams I am the founder and owner of Screaming Reels. I have fished the tributaries of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario for over thirty years. I started fishing for Coho salmon in the mid 70's and then the Ohio Department of Wildlife stopped stocking them because they were not returning to the tributaries in which they started. Later they started stocking a strain of steelhead (Oncorhynchus Mykiss). This is the best fishing if you like big aggressive fish.

Ohio Steelhead Fishing

I started experimenting with fishing for Steelhead and I must say that these fish are quite a challenge due to their aggressive nature. I fish the rivers and creeks between Sept and May almost every day. I have to say that Steelhead fishing is an addictive sport. To find them and then make them eat what you learned to tie from a book is an experience itself. Years ago it was the first Steelhead that ate my fly, gave a few massive head shakes and was off to the races and out of the air and dancing on its tail that got me hooked. It was almost like watching a ballet that got my heart pumping and my eye's open to watch this silver beast dance on the water and then go down and back up and do it all over again.Ohio Fly Fishing Guide

My guides are like me and when we start fishing for Steelhead we stay on top of them. We all go out to different locations in the hunt for the silver beasts. As a guide service we go out and find the fish and stay on top of them. We watch the weather, the flow charts and figure out where to find them. As guides we teach the art of locating and catching these fish on a fly or a bait rod. We fish in cold and warm temperatures. Steelhead average in weight from 4-20 Lbs. Just this year a 20 lb fish was caught in Pennsylvania. We fish from the Rocky River located in Cleveland, Ohio to 18 Mile in New York for these big game fish. It's not that we don't like catching other fish we just love the silver.

Before the major Steelhead runs, we fish the same tributaries in late September for King Salmon and big Brown Trout in October when they come up to spawn in the rivers and creeks. These are also an aggressive fish. The Kings are called that for a reason. They hit and run and can weigh up to 50 Lbs or more. The brown Trout that follow these Kings are big averaging between 6 and 20 lbs. These fish will also take you for a ride, are acrobatic and are just as aggressive as Steelhead.

We can also fish for other species, such as the Small Mouth Bass and which is a great option for warm weather anglers. Small Mouth Bass come in behind the Steelhead as they make their way back to the lakes.Ohio Fishing Guide

We also offer a Carp fishing guide trip and that starts in mid July. Carp fishing is a top notch fish and they do not come out of the water to dance but will hit your bait and then they are off and running. These fish have a massive burst of energy and make long distance runs without stopping.

I use large arbor reels for these fish and only Bauer reels. We keep an eye out on the rivers and creeks for future locations that change during the seasons. These changes take place all the time the river or creeks. The water makes new pockets and formations in the rivers and creeks and affects our hunting for all fish. So if you want the best experience give us a call.
