Nova Scotia fishing lodge for Margaree River Atlantic Salmon fly fishing.

The Margaree is one of the most beautiful North American rivers and it was appointed a Heritage River. Since the last century fly fishers have come from all over the world to this area to catch their salmon.

It splits into two parts at our property; hence the name Margaree Forks. The part coming from the mountain is only to be fished by fly starting June 1^st until October 31st. In the Southwest Margaree one can also fish with worm or spoon. The normal catch in the Margaree river ranges from 6 to 20 pounds with an average catch being 10 pounds. The record catch in the Margaree is 52 lbs! There is no commercial fishery for salmon.

To fish for the Atlantic salmon with a dry fly gives you a totally new perspective. The best time for dry fly fishing is June until the end of September.

We use flies such as Mickey Finn, Green Highlander, General Practitioner, Cosseboom, Black Bear, Muddler, Blue Charm, Bugs, Bomber, Wulffs and Marabou flies. With 60 wade able pools the Margaree is a dream for every fly fishing enthusiast. Some of the best pools last year were: Seal, Snag, Etheridge, Wash, Dollar and Forks. They are all within a 10-minute radius from the Lodge. One can walk to the Forks and Dollar pool.

Recommendation for fly fishing tackle: A one hand rod of 8 to 10 feet, 7 to 9 weight, or a two hand rod of 13 to 14 feet, 9 to 11 weight. Lines should be consistent to the class of the rod. Types of lines vary Nova Scotia fly fishing lodge

from floating, sink, sink-tip or intermediate, depending on the water level. The reel should have a good brake and store 100 yards of backing line. Most of the year a floating line is appropriate, an intermediate works often better.

The Margaree as well as the remote lakes in the Highlands offer good fishing for Brook trout.

For all our waters we provide professional guiding for novices and experienced fly fishermen. (no mandatory guiding in Nova Scotia)

In our little fly shop you can buy Salmon Licenses, locally tied flies, leaders etc. We also rent Fly rods, reels and waders.

The Margaree Lodge Resort is situated on one of the most beautiful properties of the Margaree Valley, offering fine dining and lodging. We are just minutes away from the ocean and beautiful sandy beaches. Golfing, whale watching, hiking, horseback riding and sightseeing along the coastline in the Highland National Park are close by.

Our Lodge offers standard or deluxe rooms, with private Bath/WC, SAT TV, AC, telephone, coffee makers and two large suites with 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchenette, veranda.

On site we have a restaurant, lounge, outdoor pool, fitness center and guest laundry.
