About Argard River in Norway
It is estimated that more than 5 000 salmon pass the Argard beat every season on their way to the spawning areas up the Ferga River and in the yens River and its contributories.
The upper part consists of some fairly big lakes where some of the salmon remain, waiting for autumn when they swim up into small creeks and brooks to spawn.
In this way the stock of salmon is well-protected against drought and extreme low water levels which can be fatal in other rivers. The large lakes hold water and keep the river supplied with a small but regular flow, even during extreme drought periods like the ones that occurred during the first years of the new millennium.
Location
The Argard River is located 30 km south of the Namsen River and 179 km north of Trondheim. Its starting point is where the Ferga River and yens
River converge and it offers two kilometres of excellent salmon fishing (fly only) before it flows into the estuary and then the Lyngen fjord.

Season
The fishing season starts on 1 June and ends on September 1st. The Årgård River is a typical grilse river where most of the salmon weigh an average of 1.2–1.6 kilos. During the first two weeks of the season – before the grilse run starts – most fish weigh 3–6 kilos.
From Midsummer and onwards, there is a steady run of grilse with peaks when the river rises because of rainfall.
