Oregon Inlet Fishing
Cobia - Casting livebait or jigs with a squid stip are used to catch cobia. Avg weight 35-40lbs Not unusual to see fish over 70-120 lbs. Was on the boat with Capt Troy Craine with Billy Ray Lucus when they caught the 75 lb class world record of 116lbs.
Red Rum- Jigs work well for all size drum. Ocean fishing 2- 3 oz no bait. Spoon also works well for big drum. Hammered Hopkins are Captains favorite. Small drum or yearlings you can use jigs or cut bait. The fish are 1 -70 lbs.
Ocean stripers can be caught using mojos, sassy shad, spoons, jigs. They run from 10 - 50 lbs sometime even bigger. 1st December thru 1st March. Birds referred to as bee hives raining out of sky. The boat has a 48 mile radar to spot the birds to locate the fish.
Sound stripers are 1- 20 lbs and stay around structure, bridges, andbad bottom. We have the knowhow and equipment to find these spots. Sounds stripers are from the middle of Oct -1st Feb.
Spanish Mackeral are a summer time fish that a geat eating on the grill and are fun to catch. Kids love this type of fishing. They range from 1 - 6 lbs and are mainly trolling and casting.
Wahoo are and very fast warm water gulfsteam fish that will strike just about anything if you get it close enough to them with their razor sharp teeth. Wahoo is a very good eating fish.
Mahi-Mahi or dolphin are a summertime species that are withing 10 - 20 miles of the beach and is very reachable with the type of trips we run. Dolphin like to hang out around objects floating that hold minnows and other baitfish in the ocean.
King Mackeral are a schooling species of fish that are found in the green water in the cooler times of the year. They are a blast to live bait as well as kite fish and troll.
Amberjack Most common schooling at up to 20 pounds. Open water fish are not unusual at 30-60 pounds. Monsters can reach up to 100 pounds with the ability to get larger. A strong stubborn runner. Likes to dive deep and resistance is his namesake. Be prepared for a long, hard, slow landing.
