Watauga River and Holston River Fly Fishing

We are proud of our record of establishing fine fly fishing guides and float fishing trips in North Carolina and we work hard to maintain our standards of excellence. Out of respect for our native populations we practice catch and release fishing on all waters and species. We also fish single barbless hooks; this has been our practice since the beginning. We feel that catch and release fishing is imperative to protect our fisheries. We strongly support Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers.

Float Fishing Trips

North Carolina Fly Fishing GuideNolichucky Day Float Trip

Our day float of about ten miles on the Nolichucky for Smallmouth Bass takes place just above the gorge. Fly and light-tackle fishing down this remote, majestic stretch of the Nolichucky is a favorite among our guides.

Watauga River Float Fishing Trip

We have divided the 23 miles of this "floatable," diverse river into sections. We pioneered float fishing in the Southeast here; consequently, we understand which section is producing the best fishing on a daily basis. The Watauga has a healthy population of Brown and Rainbow trout.

South Holston River Float Fishing Trip

Three years of slot limits and two North Carolina Fishing Guide Serviceyears of protecting the spawning beds have greatly enhance this Frying Pan of the South. When water is released from the dam, we float the entire 14 miles; fishing streamers and nymphs in the heavy water, and, on most days, dry flies to rising fish. When there is no dam to release, we wade and fish long leaders to selective trout.
