Mataura fly fishing guide for Brown Trout in Gore New Zealand.
Mataura Fly Fishing Guide
Hi I'm Julian Peters and welcome to my backyard... Let me guide you as you experience New Zealand's premiere Brown Trout Water of the internationally renowned Mataura River Valley and beyond. I will, as your guide endeavour to bring you the best possible experience from your New Zealand fishing adventure. I have been fishing Southland's rivers since boyhood and through fly fishing over the last fifteen years I have met people from all over the world, made friends and helped them discover a little bit of paradise. Come fishing with me and I'll show you my piece of paradise... Mataura River Dry Fly Fishing
Southlands rivers and streams are a Mecca to dry fly fishers throughout the world but the pearl among them is undoubtedly the Mataura river with its reputation as one of the best brown trout rivers in the world. It is famous for its hatches and spinner falls and is the best 'match the hatch' fishing in New Zealand.
Here at Mataura Valley Trout Safaris we specialise in 'sight fishing' and Southland's clear clean rivers and streams are well suited to this method of fishing.
From meandering lowlands to bustling headwaters the Mataura river valley has something for everyone.
Spot and stalk wily browns or 'match the hatch' and fish, the rise. The Mataura river provides challenges at each new turn. Gore New Zealand Location
From our home base in Gore, we can have you into some serious fly fishing in less than ten minutes or we can take it a bit more leisurely. Not only is the Mataura river very close but there are over 25 rivers and streams within 2 hours drive as well. we are only 1 1/2 hours from Dunedin airport or 45 minutes from Invercargill airport...
