Eagle Nest Lodge is a full service Big Horn River fly fishing lodge and outfitter catering to small groups of anglers and hunters who will accept nothing short of the finest personal service. The business is managed by John and Rebecca Shirley. John and Rebecca make Eagle Nest their home and strive to make it feel like home to their guests. You will not find a formal resort at Eagle Nest, what you will discover is a second home in Montana where your every need is met by our friendly and professional staff.

Big Horn River Fly Fishing

The Big Horn River is indisputably one of the finest fisheries in the world, providing miles and miles of blue ribbon water for rainbow and brown trout. Its cool temperatures and steady flow, combined with prolific insect life, provide an ideal environment for trophy trout. The Big Horn holds a greater number of large trout -- fish in the 15-20 inch range -- than any river in the United States.

Host to phenomenal fly hatches nearly year round, the Big Horn provides excellent fishing from March through November. As a tailwater fishery heavy run-off is never a problem, making it one of the few fisheries where fishing is as good in March, April and May as it is during summer and fall. With around 6,000 trout per mile, it is not uncommon for an average angler to land 20 fish between 15 and 20 inches in a day, and most manage to hook into fish over the 20 inch mark during their stay.

The professional fly fishing guides at Eagle Nest Lodge are knowledgeable, courteous, and gifted with unlimited patience and enthusiasm. As qualified instructors, they can teach the fundamentals to beginners, help intermediate anglers improve their form, or introduce experts to new techniques for taking trophy trout. A first time angler can arrive almost empty handed and receive personal instruction, utilize our quality Orvis equipment and depart Eagle Nest with the skills to begin a lifetime of flyfishing enjoyment. You can even allow our staff to assist you in purchasing your personal tools of the trade from our on site Orivs retail shop.

The Eagle Nest crew is one of the few outfits to guide on both the upper and lower stretches of the Big Horn. Our experience on the lower Big Horn, presents opportunities for exceptionally large trout and allows guests to fish this world famous river in near solitude.

Big Horn River trips combine float fishing from McKenzie-style drift boats with traditional stalk and wade techniques.

Fly Fishing Packages at Eagle Nest Lodge

All packages at Eagle Nest Lodge are complete service arrangements that include lodging and gourmet meals in addition to the outdoor activities of fly-fishing and/or hunting. The stay begins with arrival in the afternoon (4:00pm check-in) and continues through the morning of departure (10:00am check-out).

Big Horn River Fly Fishing Packages

A combination of guided drift and wade fishing on the Big Horn and surrounding streams. April - November. Includes: lodging & dining, instruction, guides, transportation, all flies and terminal tackle, and the use of Orvis rod/reel, waders and boots, if needed. Prices do not include gratuities for guides and service staff

Bird Hunting Packages Guided hunting upland birds, and waterfowl on 40,000 acres of habitat and the Big Horn River Valley. September - November. Includes: lodging & dining, guides, dogs, transportation, boats, sporting clay shoots with targets and ammunition, and instruction.

Eagle Nest owns and operates an Orvis shop, carrying select hunting and fishing gear and apparel. Eagle Nest guests are offered special discounts and prearranged special orders are welcome. 

NOTE: Eagle Nest Lodge cannot provide alcohol. You are welcome to bring your own.
