Cabo San Lucas Fly Fishing

Mexico Baja Fishing Charter, fly fishing and light tackleBaja Anglers specializes in Cabo San Lucas fly fishing and light tackle fishing with spinning rods/reels or bait casting gear.

Fish come to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for the feast. The Sea of Cortez is a giant fish trap. Warm waters with shrimp, squid, sardines, herring, mackerel and other food flow to Pacific predators like Blue Marlin and Black Marlin, Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado (Mahi Mahi or Dolphinfish), and Wahoo. Close to shore Roosterfish, Jack Cravelle, Sierra Mackerel, Red & Cubera snapper, 3 kinds of Trevally, Yellowtail, Black Skipjack, Pompano, Grouper, Lady Fish and others abound.

We invite you to come to Cabo San Lucas for a fly fishing or light tackle fishing experience you will remember for a lifetime.

Until now, big game bluewater fly or light tackle angling required a major time commitment on a long-range boat. Or fishing from a small, cluttered, short range panga with an operator who didn't know or didn't like light tackle or fly fishing.

But now there's BAJA ANGLERS.  Welcome to the world of big time, big game bluewater Cabo fly fishing and light tackle fishing in modern high-speed boats fitted with state-of-the-art electronics, an enclosed head, clear casting areas and run by an enthusiastic, English-speaking skipper who wants nothing more than to help you catch big fish.  Welcome to Cabo San Lucas. Welcome to Baja Anglers.

The Boats Mexico Cabo San Lucas Sportfishing

BAJA ANGLERS has custom-built  26 foot ocean catamarans powered by twin 90 or 150 HP Yamahas. The soft-riding Glacier Bay boats -- engineered to smooth out rough seas -- are designed with your safety, comfort and fishing in mind. Each wide beam boat features special clear casting areas, casting stabilizers, live chum tanks, T-top for shade, enclosed head and state-of-the-art electronics including forward scan radar that permits the skipper to spot schools of fish out in front of and to the sides of the boat as well as far below the surface. Boats get you to the fish at speeds of up to 40 MPH. And your fishing day will be extended since they get you back to the harbor as quickly as possible.

The Fishing Day

Boats depart the marina at 6 a.m. and return 8 hours later at 2 p.m. Plan on arriving at the BAJA ANGLERS tackle shop 1/2 hour early to go over your tackle and fly needs and to meet your captain. The shop stocks flies, clothing, hats, sun screen, windbreakers and other items you might need to make your fishing day comfortable and productive.

We provide the expertise ... you bring the luck!
Soft drinks and chilled bottled water are complimentary on your boat. Beer is available for purchase at nearby stores. Many anglers bring chips, crackers or snacks; arrangements can be made for full box lunches from the next door deli.

Mexico Sportfishing CharterWhether this is your first time fishing the salt or there are barnacles on your seat, you'll come away from the BAJA ANGLERS experience a little more knowledgeable. Our captains will share their secrets of success from proper knots, to casting, to fish fighting techniques. Once into a school, the sea can turn into a veritable white froth of gamefish, baitfish, chum and birds. Your mission is to get a fly into the water, make a few strips, set the hook and get ready for the pull of your life.

We troll teasers for billfish -- blue and striped marlin and Pacific sailfish -- using hookless lures. When the billfish comes to the bait, its slashing bill a saber, the skipper will skillfully bring the teaser in, splashing it along the way. At 30 to 35 feet from the stern the teaser is pulled from the water.

Mexico Billfish, Marlin SportfishingYour turn. Time your cast to land the fly to the side and slightly in front of the anxious billfish and pop-strip. Chances are that by the time you ve popped the fly once or twice, you'll be hooked to the Super Chief. If everything is right -- if the fish is in a feeding mood, if the cast is accurate and the hook well set, if your knots hold, if you don't get bill-wrapped and broken off, and your arms don't cramp -- you will have experienced the second greatest thrill an angler can enjoy.

You'll have caught your billfish. You'll experience the greatest thrill a moment or two later when your captain gently releases your fish back to the sea. We often work the surfline looking for roosterfish or pez gallo. If a gallo grabs your fly or light tackle offering, it will be another moment you will remember forever. Or it might be a jack cravelle -- toro "the bull" they call them -- with a reputation as the toughest pound-for-pound competitor with fins. Or a dorado or black skipjack or ladyfish. You can literally take seven species of fish on seven casts.
