Lake Mateos Bass Fishing Lodge

Revered as “the best lake for quality bass fishing in the history of Mexico” by Fishing Facts magazine, Lake Mateos is the premiere largemouth bass sport fishing lake south of the Rio Grande. Lake Mateos (Ma-tay-oz) is located in the Sierra Madre Mountains of northwestern, Mexico approximately 30 miles northeast of Culiacan. The camp itself is located on a bluff overlooking the beautiful Humaya River, not far from the little village of Varejonal, Mexico.

You will fly commercial airlines to Culiacan International Airport (CUL). Upon arriving you’ll be met at the gate by our English-speaking representative, who will shuttle you to the lodge, just a 45 minute drive over paved roads.

Lake Mateos

Lake Mateos is filled with some of the most aggressive Florida strain largemouth bass in the world. There is an abundant supply of tilapia, majorra and shad which keep the largemouth Florida bass in hog heaven. You’ll have the best chance of landing a trophy bass of 10 pounds or more.

Accommodations & Your Day

Accommodations are air conditioned with daily maid service and private baths. Your first evening you’ll relax and enjoy a fantastic meal while discussing the next day’s fishing. You’ll select your rods from a large selection. Sunrise comes early, you’ll enjoy a delicious American/Mexican breakfast before joining our professional and experienced native guides who will have you on the water by safe daylight.

Around 11 a.m. you’ll return to the lodge for a nourishing lunch and quiet and enjoyable siesta of 1 to 2 hours (as you choose). Around 2 or 3 p.m. you’ll return to the lake for a great afternoon of fishing. We fish until dark. That evening upon returning to camp you’ll be greeted with freshly made margaritas and nachos followed by a sumptuous dinner when you can reflect the days catch while planning your strategy for tomorrow.
