Ascension Bay Fishing in Mexico

Mexico FishingFishing: Variety is the word to describe Ascension Bay and Bocapaila flats. It’s common to see bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda in the same day, all year round! With seasons for migrants tarpon and snook. That’s why probably more Grand Slams have been caught here than anywhere else. You certainly have to bring tackle for all this species an at least 3 rods to be ready any time. After reservation we will send you complete tackle list.

The Flats: We can go South and in 15 minutes be looking the first blue flats of Ascencion Bay, or, if the eastern winds are blowing to much, we can go North, right after Pesca Maya dock, and fish El Rio and Bocapaila productive flats surrounded by mangroves that help to protect form the wind. Both places are well known for its bonefish, permit, tarpon, and barracuda abundance. Mexico Fishing

What’s the best time to fish Ascension Bay? Pesca Maya is open all year round. Peak season goes from March to June, more and more anglers are taking advantage of our medium and low season discounts (10-20%). See rates for more info.

Guides: Pesca Maya recruited some of the old Pez Maya Lodge guides and the best Punta Allen Village guides. All are professional native guides, with years of experience, whose know the area as their hand and will put you on the fish. Some speak fairly good English, others speak "fishing" English, an off to spot the fish and direct your casting. Our boats are local made "pangas", with a Yamaha 40 HP outboard motor. Boats are well suited for fly-fishing, With a spacious and clean platform. comfortable to cross Ascension Bay, even in the tough days and with only 6 inches in the water we can get into any flat.

Lodge: Mexico Fishing Lodge Pesca Maya Fishing Lodge opened its doors on January 1996 and has quickly become one of the Yucatan's most popular fishing destinations and with good reason.

The lodge is located 90 miles south of Cancun in the 1.3 million acre Sian Ka'an (Mayan for "where the sky is born") Biosphere Reserve. Situated on a long, narrow strip of barrier beach, the lodge is virtually surrounded by water. To the east lies the blue Caribbean and a few hundred yards off shore, the Palancar Barrier Reef which stretches from southern Belize to north of Cancun. On the western side lies the vast "El Rio" system of flats, channels and mangrove. 10 miles to the north is the famed inlet through the barrier beach known locally as the "Boca". And 4 miles to the south lies the incomparable Ascension Bay. The entire area boasts some of the Caribbean's greatest flats fishing for bonefish, permit, snook, tarpon and others, as well as reef and offshore fishing (in season).

Rooms: 13 attractive thatched roof rooms, rustic and charming decorated, with private bathroom, hot and cold water, cooled by AC on a solitary white sand beach, turquoise waters and a magnificent coral reef at 90 yards from the beach. The Large Palapa centre of activities, exquisite meals, cold drinks; flies tying and fishing stories take place. Serius fishing, beautiful spot, nice and comfortable accommodations, good food and personal attention is our mission.

Mexico Fly Fishing** Meals: Our meals are home style, with breakfast buffet, box lunch and daily dinner menu.

If you are looking for good flats fishing in the Riviera Maya, without a doubt, the world famous Bocapaila and Ascension Bay flats are your best choice. Bocapaila lagoons are only 50 minutes from Riviera Maya, 1 more hour and you will be in Ascension Bay and it’s world famous flats. It's worth it! We choose the area according to your preference or weather conditions.
Light tackle fisherman will find many opportunities to catch different species and have a great day.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

8 hours guided fishing in private boat, includes:
- 2 rods per boat, fly or spinning
- breakfast at the lodge
- Box lunch on the boat in a cooler with
- 4 liters purified water, 4 sodas, 4 beers
- Sandwiches, fruit and snacks.

Terminal tackle is not included (leaders, flies, jigs, lures), but available for sale at the Fly Shop in the Lodge. (US$ 3.00 – $ 5.00 per piece depending on the species)

Transportation to and from your hotel:

Pick up is at 05:00 am Cancun,
06:00 am Playa del Carmen
06:20 am Puerto Aventuras / Akumal
06:45 am in Tulum

We will drop you back at your hotel between 06:00 - 07:00 pm
