Campeche Mexico Fly Fishing

This unique Tarpon destination located in the Gulf western area of the Yucatan Peninsula offers an incredible fishery for the entire fly fishing fanatics being Baby Tarpon up to 30 pounds the prime species of the area, with the occasional mangrove snapper, barracuda, jack & snook.

The fishing day usually begins early in the morning (6:00 am) having hot coffee & American style breakfast at the hotel, afterwards you will be taken to the pier were ready for departure will be your locally born & raised experienced guides who know the area by hand, 18' Hewes Red Fisher & Mako 17.5'' Inshore Series Flat Boats offer a comfort ride & great lay out for your fishing, 10 to 50 minutes from departure depending on the fishing day the adventure starts! As soon arrival to the fishery the rolling of the Tarpon begins in contrast with the calm surface of the water.

Enjoy sight fishing in 1 to 5 feet of water on one of the largest reserve areas in the Yucatan Peninsula (Los Petenes Biosphere) with a total of 282,858 acres from Campeche City to the border line limits of the Yucatan State, lengthwise of 80 miles of mangroves, turtle grass flats & an uncountable number channels packed with back country tarpon schools between 8 to 30 pound. This fish are undisturbed & react amazingly well to flies like seaducers, toads, cockroaches, gurglers & rabbit strip (wide variety of colors & 1/0 & 2/0 hooks recommended), 5 to 10 jumps per day are the fishing expectations depending on the angler skills and weather, considering an amazing fishing day an average of 50% release on board do to the fact of the hard mouth & acrobatic jumps or the silver king, 8 to 10 weight rods are recommended for our waters with weight forward floating lines, 200 feet of backing & 30 pounds shock tippets. 30 feet of casting are more than enough along the mangroves & the channels but 50 or more are important at the turtle grass flats while we chase the silver. All our guides are equipped with an assortment of flies, leaders & backup SAGE rods & reels for your use. Mid-morning snack, lunch, cool purified water & soft drinks are provide during the day that usually ends at 1:30 / 2 pm for a refreshing swim at the hotel pool & a siesta.

How to get here:

To get here are 3 easy options:

1. You can flight from your home town in to MEXICO city (MEX) & take a direct connection to CAMPECHE (CPE) with AEROMEXICO airlines with 3 daily arrivals to the Campeche.

2. Via HOUSTON (IAH) with CONTINENTAL airlines to the international airport of MERIDA (MID) (rates include private van round transfer from Merida to Campeche estimated time 90 minutes)

3. Via CANCUN, Cancun offers a wide range of airlines options at great prices (round transfers not included, estimated time 5 hours)

After clearing Customs & Immigration at any of the airports (current U.S. passport will be required for all United States citizens entering Mexico) you will be received by your host Capt. Miguel Encalada (Head Guide & Owner) who will put you in to perspective about fishing sites, Tarpon behavior & things to do in Campeche. Upon to your arrival at Campeche Plaza Hotel **** you will be fascinated being in the heart of the Historic Center only in a walking distance from the central plaza were excellent coffee houses, the Cathedral, museums & regional restaurants complement the colonial environment of the city, some of the services provided by the hotel are Cable TV, air conditioner, summing pool & 24 hours restaurant.

Gear: 8 & 9w rods whit weight forward floating lines, 200 feet of backing & 30 pounds shock tippets are the call at tarpon Bay whit the occasional use of a 10 weight out on the flats. Light Clothing for tropical weather necessary, (80 to 95 degrees) Sun protection, rain jacket & polarize sun glasses. Campeche Clothing casual.
