Dorado Beautiful yellow/blue/green, mega hard fighter, and probably the best tasting fish! (there is a local recipe for virtually every part of it) The dorado, mahi-mahi or dolphin has all the qualities of the perfect game-fish, It can grow to 5 feet and 60 pounds.
Once hooked, dorado are famous for their long fast runs (sometimes toward the boat) and aerial acrobatics, during which they can often tangle lines or create enough slack in the line to spit the hook. They can test your rod handling to the limit. Marlin Black marlins are scattered along colder currents than the sailfish, and feeds from different type of fish, however we sometimes catch it with the same type of bait than the sailfish. Activity around Acapulco diminishes as the summer proceeds then picks as the waters cool during the winter, peaking in December-February .
Sailfish Sailfish bite sporadically, they are somewhat harder to locate, and very difficult to catch Exciting from the time you hear the mate or captain yell "SAIL! to enticing it to take a bait, and keeping it on the line while its dancing on the surface., in an effort to spit the hook, but when we find them they are some times in groups and even multiple strikes are common, they are scatter along warm 70-85 degree currents Sailfish takes dead Mullet for bait, striking with their bills to stun their prey, they will frequently follow a bait for some time and "play" with it, or hit more than one bait in quick succession, making hookups difficult. Tuna
Yellowfin tuna are usually found offshore on the surface or at mid-depths in deep water. In the Pacific, they range from California to Chile. Here they are normally present year round but peak from April through August. Because of our deep water, they are often near the shore. Yellowfins hit the bait near the surface very hard and fast, then fight from the depths. They run in fast-moving schools that feed on squid, flying fish and small fish. And some times travel in company with porpoises, or with birds diving to feed on the fish driven to the surface; Both are clues to the possible presence of a school. When we see a potential for yellowfins we generally rebait some of the lines with small surface-running artificial lures and put a small lure on the down rigger in case they are deep and cannot be seen.
