The ‘Awesome’ : A Fisherman’s Dream and an extra wide Beam
The Awesome is a spacious, 30-foot ‘Island Hopper’ designed for comfort and productive fishing. The deck is roomy and accommodating, the result of an almost 13’ wide beam; the bridge is a high aerie that affords an expansive view of the surrounding waters to assure the best scouting. New for 2005 Too Awesome - 32 foot Blackfin
When rods start screaming with double and triple hook ups, the Awesome configuration is perfect - four fishermen can fight fish off the transom and not be in each other's way! A Fly Fishermen on the bow and another on the stern have plenty of space to complete forward and back casts, without worry of outriggers or each other while they concentrate on placing their flies directly in front of their targets.
Our guests are always welcome to come up on the bridge for a different perspective and view of the water. We're fully bilingual and look forward to sharing our fishing knowledge, experience and understanding of the area. In addition to fishing, we hope you'll embrace the incredible marine environment found in the beautiful Sea of Cortez. The Awesome Captain, Congo
Our goal is to help you catch fish, and we hope to provide you the best, most productive fishing experience possible. As your owner/captain, Congo has been on the water for 23 years and is well-known as one of the best captains in the entire Baja. He has won the International Billfish Tournament in La Paz with a 450-pound Black Marlin; he fought an elusive 1,000 pound Swordfish for over 24 hours. He knows the joy of catching a coveted fish; and the agony of losing one. On the Awesome, we want to meet your needs and expectations. We’ll handle the rods and reels and set the hooks, or you can handle them yourselves. We know that the pleasure of handling the rod yourself, setting your own hook and catching your own fish without assistance, may be worth the risk of losing a fish. To make sure it’s an awesome day, let us know your preference. If you choose to do it yourself, we’ll do everything we know how to put luck (and our experience) on your side. Our goal is to assure you have an awesome day!
Catch & Release, In-shore & Fly Fishing We prefer to practice Catch & Release on all Billfish, unless you specifically request otherwise. During 1999, Congo was the Number 2 'Catch and Release Captain' in the East Cape. When onboard, don't overlook the myriad abundance of fun and exciting fish found close to shore. In-shore game fish are especially perfect for fly-fishing, is another dimension to fishing. Saltwater fly-fishing requires a slightly different approach to driving and maneuvering the boat as well as managing the deck. Please let us know if you'll be fly-fishing.
