Ascension Bay offers over 20 square miles of uniformly shallow water with its famous flats of white sand, marl and turtle grass. It's a wade fisher's dream with Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Ladyfish and Barracuda. An added plus is the saltwater reef and offshore fishing where you encounter barracuda, king and sierra mackerel, grouper, jack crevalle, pargo, and little tunny, sometimes referred to as a false albacore.
Ascension Bay Fly Fishing Guide
The Mayan guides are excellent, their English is adequate and they know these waters like the back of their hands. Like most Bonefish guides, they have the eyes of a hawk. Expert seamen with seaworthy agile pangas, they are able to put you into Bonefish twenty minutes from the lodge, though most destinations are about 45 minutes.
Fly Fishing Gear: Rods and reels: 8wt, 9ft rods are the best all-around choice. A 10 wt is a good 2nd rod for larger fish and larger flies. Bring tropical, salt water floating line for the flats, and Fast sink-tip or shooting heads for the reef.
Lightweight spinning outfits 6-7 feet--filled with 4-8 pound test line--work for bonefish and permit. If you wish to test the reef fishing, bring 20-30 lb outfits with jigs and lures to match.
Ascension Bay Eco-Tours
Several exciting eco-tours are available at Cuzan. Our most popular half day boat excursion takes you to a rookery of magnificent frigates. In the winter months, the males are displaying their balloon- like red pouches while soaring over the mangrove island where they live. Winter months also assure another island laden with birds to visit with our boat excursion.

Food and Lodging in Punta Allen
Cuzan rooms are breezy palapas or native thatched cabanas. These romantic accommodations have private baths with hot water, good beds, solar lighting, hand woven hammocks for lounging and all offer an ocean view. Prices range between $45 to 100 US per night.
Cuzan has a wonderful restaurant and new full service bar. Dinners feature seafood, with local lobster (in season), fresh fish, tropical fruits and vegetables flavored with indigenous herbs and spices. Many exotic foods and herbs of the ancient Maya are home grown to assure savory and zesty meals with distinctive local flavors. The menu also consists of other Mexican standards like sopa de lima and tacos de pollo.

Reservation & Cancellation:
A 50% deposit is required to hold space. The balance is due 60 days prior to arrival date Cancellation prior to 60 days will be refunded less $75.00 handling fee. Any cancellation less than 60 day prior to arrival date will forfeit all fees. Receipt of deposit due or final payment is acknowledgment that the client has read and accepts the cancellation-refund policy.
Cuzan is not responsible for losses or additional expenses due to delays or changes in your airfare or other services, sickness or weather All such expenses will have to be borne by the client. Baggage is at the owner's risk entirely. No refund can be made for unused hotel rooms, meals, sight-seeing trips or tours Cuzan shall not be held responsible for any injury, loss or damage caused by accidents or events beyond its control, including weather.
Transport to Punta Allen:
Round trip "meet & greet" ground transportation can be provided from the Cancun Airport to Punta Allen. The fee is $500 US for 1-6 people, $700 US for 7-10, and $1000 US for up to 12 passengers in a large van.
