Seafly Charters is a saltwater fly and light tackle guiding service for people who choose to fish the beautiful waters of Cape Ann Massachusetts. Captain Barry Richards

(above right) has been fishing for over 40 years. He grew up onthe Hudson River in New York and moved to Essex in 1973 where he has been exploring and fishing the coastal waters of the Cape Ann area ever since.

Captain Barry is licensed by the U.S.C.G. and he is currently a member of the Northeast Chartersboats Captains Association, United Fly Tyers and Coastal Conservation Association (CCA). When Captain Barry is not fishing or tying flies you can find him in his Essex studio doing his renowned stained glass work.

Seafly Charters provides top of the line tackle for its clients including custom tied flies by Captain Barry for the Cape Ann area. This summer, Captain Barry will be fishing the waters of Boston's North Shore, mainly the Essex River and surrounding waters.

Striped Bass Fishing

It wasn't so long ago that our local waters held very few stripers for the sport fisherman, due to overfishing. However, after years of strict federal regulations and size restrictions the Atlantic fishery is healthy and thriving. From early May thru late October the Essex River and surrounding waters offer some of the best stripped bass fishing in the northeast thanks to its abundant bait supply and diverse bottom structure. Whether you present your favorite fly or lure these fast-moving feeders will not disappoint you. And when the Bluefish arrive midsummer, put on your wire leader and hold on. Few thrills equal the excitement of these silver torpedoes!

The Sea Otter: Fish and explore the backwaters of the Essex River and surrounding coastline aboard the Sea Otter, a 1999 19ft Key West sport fisherman powered by a 90hp Honda motor. The boat is equipped with a GPS, VHF marine radio, fishfinder, cell phone and safety equipment. The Sea Otter is outfitted with Thomas and Thomas Rods and Bauer Reels.
