Remotely situated within the subarctic wilderness of Canada, Big Sand Lake Lodge is located 525 miles north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. There is no road access to Big Sand Lake so the only way to get here is to fly. Every year our guests commonly catch and release 20-30 lb plus Northern Pike, 50 lb plus Lake Trout, 3-4 lb average Walleye's and Trophy sized Arctic Grayling
This lake offers fishing diversity at its best and its waters are exclusive to Big Sand guests only. Big Sand Lodge is the only lodge located on the lake, there are no communities and no cabins making this a truly remote and very private World Class Fishing Lodge.

To me, the word "GUIDE" exudes a quiet, understated wilderness sophistication. Believe me, Big Sand's guides have earned this stoicism. And regardless of the "experience of a lifetime" clich's you'll hear from other lodges, when you get the knife down to the pig's budding acorns, a guide's success and your trip is measured mostly by what is caught. That is the precise point with which these guides continue to spearhead far beyond the other fishing locales. The guides at Big Sand push the performance envelope so far they rewrite the parameters, and they do so without being one of those stereotypical pre-madonna's claiming to know it all. They are humble and contemplative, short on small talk and big on results.

 Since the first anglers arrived at Big Sand Lake in 1988, commencing the $6 million dollar, 5 Star-rated facility, we have been committed to catch and release. To us catch and release doesn't mean simply putting the fish back in the water.
First off it starts with our guides, who understand that their livelihood depends on the health of the fishery. Maintaining that World Class fishery is about applied consistency. Every season we learn more and more about these legendary trophy fish. The fact is that in this upper latitude of North America fish grow slow. For example the 49' inch, 32 lb Northern Pike caught this season is estimated to be 33 years old! No single person can do more to make your trip a success than your guide. The training and results at Big Sand are apparent. With that said we would like to tip our hat in recognition of our guides for a job well done, as they continue to further the standards within the Canadian Lodge Industry. It is our guides continuous effort to exceed our clients expectations and their conscientious care in maintaining Big Sand Lake Lodge as Canada's Ultimate Trophy Fishing destination.
Big Sand Lake Lodge
 With careful consideration given while designing the lay out of each log cabin we have added an impressive deck which has been newly furnished with ranch style chairs and tables. Evenings or early mornings spent on this deck provides you with a panoramic view of either Big Sand Lake or Kitimiwi Lake. We feel that a cabin is not only constructed to house you but more importantly is to inspire! Each cabin has a wood burning fireplace, 2 Queen sized beds, a full 3 piece bathroom and comes equipped with electric heat. You'll start your day off with hot coffee or tea delivered to your cabin, after all this is the vacation you've earned!
The Facility
Situated high atop an ancient glacial esker, the main lodge was built with the guests' needs foremost in mind. Constructed in 1987, the lodge features hundreds of square feet of glass providing the eye with a sweeping view of nature's northern waters and thick patterns of birch and pine that serve as a background while dining or relaxing. The lodge is further complimented with a bar and lounge, entertainment room with satellite T.V. During the spring of 2001 we added a number of new items to our games room including a fully furnished pool table, ping pong table, poker table and dart boards.
Daily Fly Outs
For guests staying at our Main Lodge on Big Sand Lake you'll have the option of flying to one of several remote fishing lakes for the day. Accompanied by your guide, you'll depart the floatplane dock at approximately 7:30 am and return back to the lodge in time for supper. This is only an option as we guarantee you great success fishing on Big Sand Lake. The option to fly out with your guide for the day only adds to the memories of your fishing trip and it is not something you need to do in order to be where the big ones are. If you've never been in a 1948 Norseman flying over the Canadian wilderness before it's an adventure you'll never forget!
Manitoba Fly In Fishing Camps
 Big Sand Lake Lodge has taken the traditional Outpost and raised it to a new level, giving you the best fishing opportunity that Canada has to offer. Choose between our Mini Lodge Outpost Camp on Chipewyan Lake or one of our Wilderness Camps.
Chipewyan Lake accommodates groups of 6 - 8 people and comes with a Cook and Camp Manager. All meals are provided.
Want to be completely on your own, well then try one of our new Wilderness Outposts Camps is for you!
Jordan, LeClair and Wolf Lakes offer you the same great fishing, but are not staffed; you do your own cooking and have the lake completely to yourselves. Food is pre purchased and waiting for you at the camp when you arrive. WOW! Simple and easy.
Included in Big Sand Lake's Outpost packages: round trip air from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Big Sand Lake's private airstrip, float plane trip to and from the Outpost, all bedding, boat, motor, and gas. Outposts are set up to accommodate groups of 2 - 10 anglers. Packages in length of 5, 7 or 10 days.
