New Orleans fishing guide for Redfish, Black Drum and Speckled Trout.
New Orleans Fishing Guide Captain Barrett Brown Fishing the Mississippi Delta Marshes for Redfish, Speckled Trout and Black Drum I will pick you up at your New Orleans hotel and take you south of downtown out in the Mississippi River Delta which is alive with an abundance of wildlife like Ducks, Alligators, Egrets, Pelicans, Nutria and otters to mention a few. The Hunt Is On.... I will pushpole you along in skinny water (1 1/2' or less) looking for tailing, pushing, crawling or finning redfish to set you up for the perfect cast. Conditions permitting, you will see the fish, make the presentation, see him eat the fly, set the hook, and hold on as he takes off. The rest is up to you. Depending on the time of year and conditions, I will go to the best area I think will be most productive for your trip. I feel the this makes me more versatile rather than being locked into one spot or area.? Fishing New Orleans La,?I target Redfish and Black Drum, but also catch Speckled Trout, Flounder and Sheepshead. All of the fishing is done from the boat and I fish one angler at a time as we attempt to position you for your best shot. I use 8-10wt. fly rods with floating lines. Leaders with tippets in the 12-20lb. range work best for our area. Most saltwater fly patterns work on redfish when they are feeding. I typically use crab and shrimp patterns along with spoons, bendbacks, poppers and clousers. My Boat. Capt. Barrett has a 17' Maverick HPX Tunnel Fla style flats boat . Trips are for (2) anglers per boat and additional boats can be arranged for larger groups. You can stay anywhere in the greater New Orleans area, as I will pick you up and return you right to your hotel. Please call me if you need any help with your lodging.
I usually fish with a mudmotor that can pole in virtually no water. We can get right where Mr. Redfish lives and eats. The fishing is literally minutes from the boat launch and the area is full of broken marsh, duck ponds and mud-lined shorelines. This is a very easy going trip with no open water to cross or long boat rides. This area is well suited for 1/2 day trips. The other area I fish, The Biloxi Marsh, is a little longer car and boat ride to get to where we fish. I use my Marverick to fish this area. The water here is a little saltier with more oyster beds. The shallow water we fish has a close proximity to deeper water, allowing bigger fish to move back and forth to feed. Thus, this area has gotten a reputation for holding bigger fish at certain times of the year. This is where we catch some of those monster reds and black drum. This fishing usually starts picking up in October on into mid January. Obviously as we get further into our winter, the fronts pass through faster and our window of opportunity is shorter. It's a much harder trip than Myrtle Grove and not suited for 1/2 days. New Orleans Fishing Guide Rates and Info
