Oahu Hawaii Fly Fishing Guides offers guided fly fishing on Oahu, Molokai and Kauai islands for Bonefish.

Oahu Fly Fishing Guides

We offer guided fly fishing for two sub-species of Pacific Bonefish (O'io in Hawaiian) and three species of Trevally on the varied and expansive flats of Oahu. Freshwater guided fly fishing for Peacock Bass (or Tucanare) is also available on a reservoir in central Oahu. The Bonefish in Hawaii average between four to eight pounds, with numerous chances at double-digit fish measuring over 30 inches. These large fish often travel as singles or in 2-packs or 3-packs. Our guides specialize in optimizing your time on the saltwater flats based on tides and the prevailing weather conditions. Our trips predominantly consist of wading, with boat and kayak add-ons available (additional charge) to allow access to addional offshore flats and deeper water. Our local guides are friendly, extremely knowledgeable and highly skilled at polishing your casting technique and putting you on fish. A typical, productive day on the water consists of: sighting 10 or more fish, casting to 3 to 5 fish and (hopefully) hooking and/or landing one or more fish. While on the flats, you will also have the opportunity to catch a wide variety of other saltwater fish, including: barracuda, needlefish, pufferfish, triggerfish, and any one of three species of Trevally: Giant Trevally (Ulua in Hawaiian), Bluefin Trevally (Omilu), and Golden Trevally (Budaguchi). Small Trevally of any variety are called Papio in Hawaiian. For the serious saltwater angler, Oahu is the perfect base of operations to add on a dat trip (or longer) to one of the other islands (tides and weather permitting), especially Molokai and/or Kauai. Bonefish and Peacock Bass are Catch and Release.

Food

Our guides can arrange for a packed lunch on most daily guided fishing trips. Additionally, our guides know all the "hidden culinary gems" on the island. They are a tremendous resource for dining recommendations if you plan to eat off the beaten track and away from the downtown tourist traps. Contact us if your plans require a complete set of meals as part of a week-long lodging package at one of several island vacation rentals.

Lodging

We can assist with daily or weekly lodging arrangements at various local hotels or island vacation rentals. Contact us if you need lodging during your stay.

Travel

Plan your flights to arrive and depart Honolulu International Airport (HNL). Contact us if you would like assistance with air transportation. Travel insurance is highly recommended.

Fishing Gear

Your trip cost includes the use of top quality gear, including rods, reels and flies. Saltwater flats boots may be available in your size. Check with your guide before arriving. You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own equipment -- fly rods should be 8wt or 9wt with a large arbor reel. Saltwater flats boots and polarized sunglasses are essentially mandatory gear. Plan to dress to protect against both wind and sun exposure and always have rain gear available. Some other items to consider packing: camera, hat and/or buff, stripping basket, waist pack with water bottle(s) and sunscreen/chap stick.

Non-fishing Activities

Sight-seeing, snorkeling, hiking, golf and surfing are just a few of the non-fishing activities available. Contact us for assistance with any non-fishing activity suggestions for you or your family and friends.

Molokai Fly Fishing  Hawaii

We offer guided fly fishing for two sub-species of Pacific Bonefish (O'io in Hawaiian) and three species of Trevally on 22 miles of pristine saltwater flats on the south shore of Molokai. The Bonefish in Hawaii average between four to eight pounds, with numerous chances at double-digit fish measuring over 30 inches. These large fish often travel as singles or in 2-packs or 3-packs. For the serious saltwater angler, Molokai is the Hawaiian island to hunt for world record class Bonefish. There are a limited number of guides residing on Molokai. However, our Oahu-based guides specialize in optimizing your time on the flats based on tides and the prevailing weather conditions. Our trips predominantly consist of wading, with boat add-ons available (additional charge) to allow access to addional offshore flats and deeper water. Our guides are friendly, extremely knowledgeable and highly skilled at polishing your casting technique and putting you on fish. Oahu is the perfect base of operations to add a 1-3 day fly fishing trip to Molokai (tides and weather permitting). Bonefish are Catch and Release.

Kauai Fly Fishing, Hawaii (August and September)

We offer guided fly fishing for two sub-species of Pacific Bonefish (O'io in Hawaiian) and three species of Trevally on a few saltwater flats on Kauai. Freshwater guided fly fishing for Peacock Bass (or Tucanare) is available on several private ponds, and Rainbow Trout are stocked annually and available during a limited 6-week season in August and September. Rainbow Trout were introduced to Kauai several decades ago and are found only in very remote streams on the island. The Bonefish in Hawaii average between four to eight pounds, with numerous chances at double-digit fish measuring over 30 inches. These large fish often travel as singles or in 2-packs or 3-packs. Our guides specialize in optimizing your time on the flats based on tides and the prevailing weather conditions. Guided saltwater fly fishing trips are wading trips only. Our local guides are friendly, extremely knowledgeable and highly skilled at polishing your casting technique and putting you on fish. While on the flats, you will have the opportunity to catch a wide variety of saltwater fish, including: barracuda, needlefish, pufferfish, triggerfish, and any one of three species of Trevally: Giant Trevally (Ulua in Hawaiian), Bluefin Trevally (Omilu), and Golden Trevally (Budaguchi). The island of Oahu is the perfect base of operations from which to add a day (or longer) fly fishing excursion to Kauai (tides and weather permitting). Bonefish, Peacock Bass and Rainbow Trout are Catch and Release.
