Hawaii Fly Fishing Guide

There is nothing as seductive to the fly angler as fly fishing for giant wild fish. There aren't many frontiers left in the fly angling world that have not been over exploited or are in heart wrenching decline. There are still places worth traveling to, and this hope for the fish of a lifetime keeps us charging ahead, the faith burning deep in our souls.

The bonefish has captivated fly anglers since 1924. On that day a retired lobbyist named Holmes Allen caught a bonefish on a fly chasing snook. Sometimes accidents turn out to be blessings in disguise. The now revered bonefish labored in obscurity until the legendary Joe Brooks targeted and landed the first bonefish caught while tailing in Florida. Brook's guide was the legendary Captain Jimmie Albright. The bonefish leapt into the fly angling consciousness on that very day. For years, there have been whispers about monster bonefish in the Hawaiian Islands. Fly anglers would bring a rod with them on vacation, struggle to find "flats" suitable for fishing the fly and leave heartbroken or skeptical.

Oahu Fly Fishing Guide

Kauai Head Guide Rob Arita is fully insured on any operation in the Hawaiian islands.

I knew the minute I met Rob Arita we'd do just fine together. You see, Rob is an old steelhead bum like myself. He used to camp on the Kispiox and other Skeena rivers like so many of us twisted steelhead fly-fishing brethren for months at a time. He used to hold one of only 10 guiding licenses on the legendary North Umpqua in Oregon.

Rob has chased Tarpon and bonefish in the Keys for many years to top things off. Rob has guided Kauai for over 8 years now and is the expert on it's Hawaiian Bonefish.

We are proud to have Rob on our team and even prouder to know he is our anchor on the island of Kauai. Rob has prospered in tough fly-fishing environments and Kauai is the perfect place for his tenacity and talents. He finds clients Hawaiian Bonefish, simple as that.

What to expect

Your day is tailored to your wants and goals. Some people want to fish hard, and don't care about sit down meals or breezy Hawaiian lunches. Others want a more relaxed day with a nap or break. We are flexible and understand that.
I will promise you this: WE WILL BE ON TIME, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS. WE WILL NOT FISH OR CAST IN FRONT OF YOU AND CHARGE YOU FOR A GUIDING DAY.

We will guide you to what I feel is above the highest standards in the fly-fishing industry. Due to changing tides, we reserve the right to gently coach, encourage and motivate you to fish a bit harder than you may have in the past. At times, this can be a "window" fishery and we want to get you into a big, wild, Hawaiian Bonefish above all else. We have three world class guides operating on Oahu and one on Kauai daily. This keeps fresh information coming in constantly.

We carry a million dollars insurance on any fishing operation that occurs anywhere in the Hawaiian Islands.

We fish and wear the finest equipment in the fly angling world. We want your pursuit of the Hawaiian Bonefish to be a World Class Day of Hawaii fly fishing.

Here in Hawaii, those monster Hawaiian Bonefish are no legend or secret. They exist!

In 1954 William Badua hooked and landed an 18 pound 2 ounce Hawaiian Bonefish or 'O'io as they are called in Hawaii. That record is broken over a dozen times a year by Hawaiian fishermen as incidental catch. Those fish are never reported. Net fishermen pull Hawaiian Bonefish 25 pounds and bigger out of nets every month. It has been common knowledge that Hawaiian Bonefish and Bonefish caught in nets off the African Coast are the biggest recorded sizes in the world.

We live and guide in World Record bonefish country. We feel very privileged to share this fishery with our fly-fishing fraternity. We feel even more privileged to share the beauty and wonders of the Hawaiian Islands and the incredible people who call it home. Come fish with the Coach and my hand-picked Guiding "Dream Team".

We'll show you the "Aloha Spirit" and do everything in our power to get you a shot at the Hawaiian Bonefish of a lifetime!
