Guatemala fishing vacation with blue water fly fishing for Sailfish.
Guatemala Fishing Vacation
Bluewater fishing at its best : Guatemala sportfishing has earned a worldwide reputation as THE destination for your billfish fishing trip because anglers regularly have shots at 20+ Sailfish per day. In addition to the prolific sailfish population , there are opportunities for Blue marlin and Black marlin as well as Tuna and Dorado.
The coastline and ecosystem support vast quantities of bait year round and warm eddies hold large pods of sailfish between 2 and 50 miles from port. Guatemala holds many official (and unofficial !) records for Pacific Sailfish including most in a day on conventional (124) and on the fly (57)...as well as most in a season..................so there is clearly no shortage of action !
The Great Sailfishing Company is one of the longest established operators on the Pacific Coast of Guatemala now entering their 7th season. Whether you prefer the luxury and privacy of a Villa staffed with personal chef, maid and waitress, the larger resort atmosphere of the Villas Del Pacifico or the smaller complex of Costa Verde, we will be happy to work with you to ensure that you enjoy the fishing trip of a lifetime.
Fly fishing and conventional tackle are both accommodated on our fleet of Bertram sportfishing boats. Our crews are full time, experienced and offer both encouragement and tuition if you wish; our only objective is for you to have a trip of a lifetime. We carry a range of quality tackle on each of our boats, featuring Penn International/Shimano/Okuma conventional and Cam Sigler/Loomis/Billy Pate fly gear.
Catch, Release and Catch some more
There is nowhere else in the world with such a consistent record of high catch rates for billfish as Guatemala. Such a prolific population ensures that all members of the trip have the opportunity to participate in the action and to develop their skills and experience in sight fishing for large aggressive fish.
If you have ever toyed with the idea of light tackle or flyfishing for billfish, this trip will give you the opportunity. Many clients start their trip with us on conventional tackle, and over the course of a couple of days having exhausted themselves on 20lb class tackle decide that now is the time to give the fly a go !
Our boats are fully equipped with top quality fly gear, and the crews are enthusiastic, experienced and willing to give encouragement and guidance to clients.. After a trip to Guatemala it's easy to catch the "this is the only way of fishing for billfish" bug. In fact anglers like the challenge and intensity of saltwater fly fishing so much that it has become one of the fastest growing segments of the recreational bill fishing industry, gaining in popularity by leaps and bounds every season. Manufacturers of rods, reels, line, flies, etc., have been trying to keeping pace with the needs of saltwater fly fishing anglers so there is available a large variety of good quality, heavy duty products to choose from.
On a typical fishing day, you will be picked up at your villa at 6.30am after a hearty breakfast, and transported to the Marina Pez Vela where the fleet is docked. The boats usually leave the dock prior to 7am., and cruise comfortably at 20+knts to the fishing grounds which may be anywhere from 2-50miles from the dock depending on the time of year and location of good blue water. The fleet stays in good contact with each other during the day both for safety and to share information on the bite. After returning to the dock between 4-4.30pm., you can take your time to relax at the modern marina bar and share a drink and stories with fellow anglers or we will transport you back to your villa where hors d'oeuvres and drinks await you (and perhaps a swim in the private/semi private pool).
The Fleet
Our Pacific bill-fish/sailfish fishing charters fleet is docked at the new marina named the Pez Vela Marina. This new marina uses the same outlet as Guatemala's main Pacific port, Puerto Quetzal, and is located next to it. This is the only sportfishing boat marina, on the Pacific coast, that has calm saltwater access without going though the dangerous old outlet near Puerto Iztapa, where boats need to stop and wait for the right set of waves that will allow their "safe passage". When out on a family sport-fishing vacation or with a group of buddies, do not put them at risk by "shooting the outlet". Use the new marinas outlet with calm waters.
Our boats are all Bertram Sportfishers from 31-38ft lOA and are fully equipped with modern conveniences and all safety gear.
Our company offers great family/group or individual deep-sea sport-fishing packages, including fly-fishing and other optional trips/tours/adventures that fit a wide range of budgets. We at The Great Sailfishing Company will work with you to put together a phenomenal fishing adventure that you can afford. Give us a try and you will not be disappointed.
Accommodation
Our packages are all-inclusive; we will take care of you from the time that you land in Guatemala until we return you either to your International Hotel the evening prior to departure, or to the airport on the day of departure. The Great Sailfishing Company offers accommodation alternatives to suit all of our clients needs.
We offer private 3&4 bedroom villas sleeping up to 8 clients. They are staffed with a personal chef, maid and waitress, so that there is maximum flexibility for menus and individual preferences.
Each villa is equipped to an International standard with conveniences such as large American Style fridges, drinking water, air conditioning and good, hot showers !
Some villas also have Satellite TV and games accessories such as pool table, game table etc. The benefits of our villa accommodation are :
Privacy for your group. Each villa will be for the sole use of your group while you stay. Although it is nice to socialise with other anglers it is often difficult to get the right mix of folks, and so our experience has been that it is most convenient to share stories with other groups at the dock or share a cold beer at the marina bar after the day but then have the ability to retire to your own private accommodation. Only your schedule to consider : some groups like to burn the candle at both ends while on a trip; having your own villa means you don't have to listen to someone partying in the pool until dawn ! We do have a standard menu but we are happy to revise it according to your preferences. More fish/less fish, local dishes (adventurous or otherwise !), vegetarian etc.. Our staff are professional, full-time chefs and are more than willing to accommodate you. The villa is stocked each day with conveniences such as snacks, juices, cold drinks, cigars etc.. When you feel like a cold drink in the middle of the night just wander to the fridge and help yourself. The bar is stocked with liquor at the start of your trip. Beer, wine, juices, soft drinks will be replenished daily. If you manage to drink the bar dry (hasn't happened yet !) we will be happy to replenish it at cost. All of our villas are located in the secure area next to the Soleil Resort. There is 24hr security not just at the entrance, but continually patrolling the grounds as well. We have never had an incident at the property and you can feel confident to take a stroll after dinner around the extensive property at any time. The property also has 2 tennis courts for your use, and is a short 5 minute walk to the beach without leaving the Resort grounds. Each villa has either a private or semi-private pool.
Breakfast is served prior to leaving for the dock each morning, and on return you will find freshly made Hors D'oeuvres and cold drinks. Dinner may be Dorado caught on the trip that day - or whatever your party has chosen for the evening but all served as you like it, when you want it.
Transport in a private van will be at your villa at 6.30am in each fishing day, and will be at the marina on your return
