Kvanchak River near Lake Illiamna

Ready for the best Alaska fishing trip? As you travel down the crystal clear Kvichak (kwee-JACK) River about four miles from majestic Lake Iliamna, you will find The Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge nestled intimately up on the riverbank. This beautiful fishing lodge is located in the heart of the Bristol Bay region.

The Bristol Bay watershed is not only home to the world’s richest commercial and sport salmon fisheries, but is also Alaska’s only designated “Trophy Rainbow Trout” area. Here, snow-fed streams flow crystal clear from the mountains across the rolling tundra to the sea, ensuring a great Alaska fishing trip.

Sitting on the riverbank overlooking this pristine area, The Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge is an excellent addition to your Alaska fishing trip and consists of a 3,500 square foot solid cedar chalet style main lodge, three duplex cabins for guests, the “Iliamna” guest cabin, and a wood burning sauna. The lodge will accommodate 16 exclusive guests per night and all the cabins have hot and cold running water and 24 hour a day electrical service from our generator plant.

We fish by wading, drifting, casting, or plugging. There are streams that are designated as fly fishing only areas and there are rivers that allow either fly fishing or the use of conventional gear. The type of fishing you do is your choice. Your guide is there to help you and to educate you about the rivers we fish. Alaska's Sportsman's Lodge was built because of the close proximity to other excellent fishing streams that can be quickly accessed by using the lodge floatplanes. We are only short flights from some excellent fly fishing only streams for rainbows and to some fantastic salmon streams.

Spectacular Lodge Floatplanes

At the Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge, we have the best of both worlds. The fishing is excellent on our “Home” river and we are very close to many “Fly-out” rivers. When targeting big rainbow trout, the Kvichak is the river of choice to be on. There is also tremendous fishing opportunities throughout the Bristol Bay/ Lake Iliamna area that we want our guests to have a chance to see and experience. With that being said, the lodge has its own private float planes and pilots to take guests to different rivers throughout the area to fish for salmon, Arctic Char, and Rainbow Trout.

Our central location makes many of the remote streams very accessible and only a short flight away. We are near Katmai National Park and Preserve and have permits to operate on “limited access” rivers. The benefit of choosing to visit the Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge is that whether you decide to fly-out to fish a nearby stream or stay and experience the wonders that our home river offers, your fishing day will be filled with adventure and excitement.
