The Kobuk River and its many tributaries offer a relaxing summer rafting trip, which can be complimented with great fishing and a day hike to the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes; the largest active dune field in North America.
Kotzebue is one of the few places to offer the true Alaskan experience of viewing a variety of wildlife species in their natural habitat. On a single flight it is possible to see Dall sheep, moose, musk ox, black bears, grizzly bears, and possibly the elusive timber wolf.
For about a two week period towards the end of June through the first week of July you can view the aggregation of the Western Arctic Caribou Herd with numbers reaching up to 400,000 give or take a few thousand. Viewing this amazing natural wonder is nothing short of remarkable. It will remain infinitely lucid in your mind.
