Tamarindo Sport Fishing Charters Costa Rica

with Captain Randy Wilson for World Class Tamarindo Sport Fishing !

We are located in Tamarindo, on the northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Our location is the closest one to the deep water beyond the Continental Shelf. These grounds are productive 12 months of the year for a large variety of sport fishing species:

  • Sailfish
  • Blue, Black and Striped Marlin
  • Yellowfin Tuna
  • Dorado (dolphinfish)
  • Wahoo
  • Roosterfish
  • Snapper

While each year may be slightly different, the catch rate for these species is fairly consistent all months of the year.

Traditionally, April through September are excellent for sails, marlin, tuna and dolphin. The seas are calm and it may rain in the afternoon.

October through December sees the transition from rainy season to dry season here and we catch a variety of species.

December through March can be windy so boats run 50 minutes to the south to get in the good fishing out of the wind. Marlin, large yellowfin tuna are plentiful then, as well as sailfish. Full days are recommended for offshore bill fishing.

We practice hook retrieval as the ultimate form of catch and release!

The Captain
Randy Wilson captain of the Talking Fish, came to Costa Rica in 1974 and has fished the northwest Pacific waters extensively. He is deeply committed to conservation and has developed different techniques and lures to ensure proper handling of the sailfish and marlin during hookup, fight and release.

Randy has led his clients to IGFA records on conventional and fly tackle. He encourages and teaches all anglers to hook their own billfish, whether they are novices or experienced anglers.
