Patagonia Chile Fly Fishing Lodge and Guides fishing the Rio Cisnesfor Brown Trout.
Patagonia Chile Fly Fishing Lodge
Since 1994 we have been operating La Posada de los Farios Lodge "The Inn of the Brown Trout" on Chile's Rio Cisnes, the finest brown trout fly fishing stream in Chile Patagonia. We are a small family run fly fishing lodge, (just 6 guests a week) and cater to serious fly fishermen seeking a personalized Chile fly fishing lodge experience well off the beaten path. Although fly fishing is our main focus, we can also show non fishing guests a wonderful Chile Patagonia experience.
Chile Patagonia Fishing Lodge La Posada de los Farios "The Inn of the Brown Trout"
Established in 1994, La Posada de los Farios is located north of Coyhaique, Chile on a peaceful working cattle ranch overlooking the beautiful and remote Rio Cisnes (Swan River), one the finest trout fishing streams in Patagonia Chile. The fishing is primarily for wild and agressive resident Brown Trout, hence the name: Los Farios, "fario" being the Chilean name for Brown Trout.
The mountain scenery is spectacular and the fishing options abundant. The lodge itself is the original historic 60 year old ranch house, modified to comfortably handle a maximum of just 6 guests per week. We strive to maintain a relaxed "homey" atmosphere around the lodge, with delicious meals served family style, always complimented by fine Chilean wines, freshly baked bread and, fresh fruits and vegetables from our garden. Our jovial young chef Fernando Bravo has been with us for many seasons and is now considered among the very finest lodge chefs in Chile today.
During your fishing day an abundant picnic luncj is prepared streamside by your guide and a steaming woodfired hot tub awaits you at the end of each fishing day. A traditional patagonian style barbequed lamb "asado" is prepared over an open fire by local "gauchos" as a final farewell celebration.
Daily fishing options include wading or floating the spectacular Rio Cisnes, hidden lagunas, spring creek tributaries, horseback trips to our own Private Lake, another very productive and gorgeous lake just 20 minutes from the door of the lodge and, excursions to the coastal fjords for sea-run trout and salmon. Fishing begins at the doorstep and travel to all our fishing areas passes through some of the loveliest and most rugged country on earth.
Dry flys are used most often but, both nymph and streamer techniques may be employed when conditions dictate. It is not uncommon to see truly large Browns feeding on the surface. All fish are released.
Virtually all of the angling is done in the shadows of the spectacular Andean peaks that form the Argentine border. The beautiful Queulat National Park is just to the north.
Non-fishing guests are welcome and can enjoy activities such as horseback riding, river rafting, kayaking, hiking, mt. biking, birdwatching, excursions into nearby wilderness areas, or cultural visits to neighboring farms and villages.
The rural local people "campesinos" live a lifestyle that has long vanished from the North American continent and meeting them often turns out to be a visitor's most memorable Patagonia experience. Drinking the traditional "mate" tea with a local Patagonian gaucho is an experience one will never forget.
Season: November through April.

Coastal Patagonia Chile Fly Fishing
Our pioneering of Chile's coastal fjords fishery was beautifully featured in Fly Rod & Reel magazine. The remote area surrounding the spectacular Queulat and Isla Magdalena National Parks and the Puyuhuapi Canal and is truly Chile's "Big Fish Heaven" and the rugged fjords and islands provide the setting for one of the world's most unique and interesting fly fishing adventures.
We offer a coastal add-on to a stay at "La Posada de los Farios" or, an extended coastal fjords program that offers anglers the opportunity to fish a variety of spectacular "big fish" locations along the coast. Anglers will stay at the comfortable guest cabins located within Queulat National Park or, at a local hosteria (Chilean B&B) in Puerto Cisnes. Why choose Patagonia Chile Fly fishing?
In one simple word: Experience. Nearly 20 years of outfitting experience in the Chilean Patagonia region of Aysen, now Chile's flyfishing mecca.
From helping to establish the first successful flyfishing lodge in Aysen back in 1989, to the present, pioneering many new fisheries along the way, and helping to shape Chile's reputation as one of the top angling destinations in South America.
Our remote location assures that you will not need to get up at the break of dawn in order to try and beat other anglers to the best fishing spots. Unlike the increasingly crowded rivers around Coyhaique, the Rio Cisnes valley is an amazingly peaceful place where it is still quite rare to see any other fishermen at all during a week of fishing.
Chile is stunningly beautiful and a very safe and easy place to travel, with countless rivers and lakes amidst the spectacular Andean mountain scenery
For the flyfishing enthusiast, Chile's side of Patagonia offers a wonderful variety of angling opportunities, without the crowds like you find on most of North America's best waters.
