Patagonia Fly fishing

Fly fishing in Chile unsurpassed for rainbow and brown trout, and, as a bonus, Chinook salmon. Enjoy a wide range of fishing excursions, in wild rivers and streams, spring creeks, and alpine lakes. Customized adventures with float-trips, hike-ins, ride-ins, helifishing and traditional wading, all in solitude way off the beaten path, in the Andes east of Puerto Montt towards Bariloche, Argentina. Located at the gateway to Patagonia, between volcanoes Osorno and Calbuco, Lago Llanquihue and Lago Todos Los Santos, Tres Rios enjoys one of the most spectacular settings anywhere, and it's ideally located to access the world class angling options in all directions. Enjoy personalized attention and warm Chilean hospitality in a family style owner-operated lodge in remote countryside overlooking Lake Llanquihue and the Petrohue River valley.

For alternative adventure join us on a Patagonia Road Trip for excursions among the watersheds of Futaleufu-Yelcho, Palena, Figueroa, Cisnes and Mañihuales. We will customize an expedition program according to your timetable and fishing preferences. There is no better way to experience more of Patagonia's magnificent scenery and culture and fly fish the choicest water when it's at its best.

Fly Fishing in Chile

Tres Rios is about fly fishing in Chile for strong, wild fish, away from everyone else, in a setting of natural splendor, with a chance for trophy trout.

We are located in an area of great diversity in fisheries and landscapes. Choose your favorite types of water among large and small rivers and streams, large and small lakes and lagoons, spring creeks and even salt water estuaries.

Play browns, rainbows, salmon and possibly sea-run browns all in the same day! The area we have been fishing for years runs from the Andean peaks on the border with Argentina, to the foothills punctuated with live volcanoes, down to the fjords, and across the forested rolling lowlands to the Pacific Ocean. Our guides are professional and personable, fly fishermen from childhood, eager to share their expertise and put you onto fish. The comfort and hospitality at the lodge is more than you’d ask for. To be utterly dependable we use only top-of-the-line gear, boats, and vehicles.

Non-angling companions will have plenty of alternative activities to choose from in the immediate area e.g. rafting, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, summit ascents, excursions, windsurfing, touring, and more. We can easily arrange any of these adventure activities for you.

Patagonia Road Trip

Tres Rios guides have over 15 years experience floating and fly fishing the rivers between Chaiten and Cochrane in Patagonia Chile. We started taking our returning guests from Tres Rios Lodge on Road Trips in 2003 to solve the dilemma of showing new water to old friends. A typical program, although they are all custom designed for each group, has started with an early flight from Puerto Montt to Chaiten, fishing the Rio Yelcho the same day. From there the options include Lago Yelcho, and the extensive watersheds of the rivers Futaleufu, Palena, Rosselot, Figueroa, Cisnes and Mañihuales, including all the more remote side streams, lakes and lagunas that are often more interesting than the main rivers. Often we meet anglers coming from Argentina at the Futaleufu border and run a circuit that ends either back at Futaleufu, Chaiten or Balmaceda.

Tres Rios Fly Fishing Lodge

The lodge commands a spectacular view from the lower slopes of Volcán Calbuco, the snowy 6500' volcano in the back yard. In front is Volcán Osorno at 8700' and Lake Llanquihue, the second largest in Chile. This remote upland setting offers utter peace and privacy with virtually no neighbors and only nature all around, yet only 15 minutes from the Rio Petrohué, and 20 minutes from Lago Todos Los Santos. There are over a dozen day-long angling options within an hour's drive of the lodge. Given an additional half hour, you could add another nine destinations.

We like to have up to 6 anglers at a time, although we can easily accommodate a group of 8. Unless friends request group floats, we will only put 2 boats on the same piece of water when they can fish opposite sides of the river and each have fresh water to cast to. With more than 8 guests we would feel obligated to have them on at least 3 different fisheries. We feel that we can do a superb job for a limited number of guests, and superb's the only way we want to do it. More than once, we have seen different lodges launch 4 boats with 8 anglers at same place at the same time, but we would never do that, nor would we fish anywhere near them. We are not part of a multinational lodge chain, nor did we start this because we thought it was a good business to make a bundle. It's about quality of life as a family, doing what we love to do in a very special place, and sharing it all. Quality of experience is what's about. Our formula for that requires all-out efforts from a dedicated and friendly staff, to see that guests have the time of their lives. We never forget that it's all about having a great (and memorable) time.
