Klamath River Fishing Salmon and Steelhead August - October

Our Klamath River Fishing trips are custom trips however, it's least expensive, per angler, for parties of four.

$400.00 for two, $600 for three, and $700 for four anglers, to book the whole boat for your party.

Another group, to fill the boat, may join parties of two or less. I will take no more than four in these groups. Twenty fish days are not uncommon during peak season and my boat has had hundreds of twenty plus fish days, over the years. Let my experience guide you to some of the best fishing of your life.

The sport fishing quota has been set at 30,800 adult kings for the Klamath River system.

Sacramento River or Feather River Steelhead Fishing October - December

In the fall on the Sac and Feather when the Salmon are spawning, is the time for prime Steelhead fishing. Both Fly and Conventional anglers are welcome. All wild steelhead must be released after being photographed, but it is a great feeling watching the beautiful, red sided Steelhead swim away. You still have a chance at a hatchery fish if you care to harvest one. Double digit days (over ten fish) per boat are not uncommon. When spin fishing we drift glow-bugs and roe from the boat while drifting through riffles and runs. When fly-fishing we wader out into the river and short-line nymph on a floating line for mostly adult sized Steelhead. Either technique is effective. Prime time is October 15th through December 15th.

Having guided on this beautiful river for twenty years, I still can't get enough of it. If you want great fishing for both salmon and steelhead, awesome scenery, cool coastal climate, moderate priced accommodations, a great jet boat ride, plus wildlife viewing beyond compare, come to Lower Klamath. I have been one of the top guides for years and was Top Guide in 1995. I won't cram you in the boat with 5 other people like my competitors are doing. It is ridiculous to pay high dollars for a river trip and get party boat conditions.

Sacramento River Trout Fishing April - July

Sacramento River Trout fishing is the most consistent fishery we have now. Twenty to forty fish days are normal, not the exception. This trip out of Redding, CA. has it all; Beautiful Scenery, great water conditions, abundant wildlife including Honkers, osprey, ducks, otters, blue heron egrets, and multiple hook-ups of trout and occasional salmon (salmon season closed all year in this area) This trip is available from April through August.

Shad Fishing on the Sacramento River and Yuba River May - July

If you ever caught on of these hard fighting shad, you know what we are talking about when you read about shad fever !!! Catching large numbers of these hard fighting fish really is habit forming. I have a few original clients that have not missed a year in eighteen years. Shad fishing becomes your favorite springtime activity. We catch these fish on fly and spinning gear. I carry five fly and five spinning rods in the boat at all times. We get out of the boat and fish in our waders. This helps us stay cool in the valley heat. We will fish exclusively in the boat if requested. Shad prices are the same as Klamath prices. In mid to late June and July, I often catch these fish on floating fly lines standing right in the middle of schools of hundreds of shad. Because of the high numbers of fish landed (sometimes over 50 fish per angler) Shad fishing is great practice for salmon and steelhead fishing. Shad season runs from May 15 through the end of July.

Smith River and Chetco River Fishing - Winter Steelhead December - March

The Smith River is the Crown Jewel in California's Steelhead Rivers. Drift boating through two thousand year old redwoods with a chance to break the state record on every cast is what brings anglers to the Smith. Consistent fishing, and more fishable days a season, is what bring them back year after year. My boats averaged between two and six fish per day last year, with two over twenty pound Steelhead boated in 2002. I've drifted the Smith over 1500 times and landed close to 4,000 Steelhead. You have a great chance of success when you step in my boat. Smith River trips are mid-December through March.

Chetco River Oregon December through March 31 Winter Steelhead

Just across the California northern border in Brookings Oregon is the Chetco River. I have been fishing the Chetco River since 1985. This river is the premiere winter steelhead river in Southern Oregon. The Chetco is considered easier to fish then the Smith because it has a smoother bottom and generally has a larger run of fish then it's sister river the Smith. When you book a winter steelhead trip with me, we will have the choice of fishing whichever river is fishing best!
