Captain Mike Thompson's legendary Amigo runs both open party (open to the general public trips) and charter private fishing trips throughout the year. All open to the general public trips are limited load, which means that only 15 anglers will be taken even though the ship can fish 48 persons. Limited load trips have many advantages over standard southern California fishing trips including incredible amounts of room to fish and to fight fish, less competition for choosing the best baits, more assistance from crew members and captain, and a more relaxed and personable fishing trip overall.
 
Captain Mike and the Amigo are also known throughout the southern California sportfishing community as one of the best private charter fishing rentals in operation. Captain Mike has been operating the Amigo for over 25 years and is principal owner in Newport Landing Sportfishing. He knows all of the islands, offshore banks, and migratory routes for big gamefish such as giant white sea bass, yellowtail, albacore tuna, bluefin tuna and over two dozen other species and often other captains will often ask him for advice on their upcoming trips. The Amigo can accommodate all size groups from as small a 1-2 people up to 24 persons for overnight and multiple day fishing trips and groups up to 45 persons on ½ day and full day options.
